I have a 1 day gig on october 6th from 9-5 pm paying about 100 000 won. Just cruising round with a bunch of kids and some korean teachers for the day, nothing much required, just show up. This is for public school teachers in PAJU only and since my hook up at the education board is quite desperate it will be on a first come first serve basis. Only dependable people please.

I hate these things. The education department knows they can't pay the native teachers the correct 20,000/hour so they have to get one of the native teachers to try and talk others into working for less.
I know a couple native teachers in PAJU OP. I'll pass along the info. Please tell your school/education department that we should be paid 20,000won/hour as stated in our contract. Not likely they will bump up the pay, but at least you have said it for the record. |

Well it's not like we really have to do anything for it though. i mean sure, 180 000 won for an 8 hour day of sitting in a bus, being fed, chatting a bit would be pretty damn sweet but 100 000 is still pretty good. |

The first step toward getting yourself and everyone screwed over in the long run is to rationalize a payment scheme by saying, 'It's a lot for what we have to do.' No, it's not, because it's not what you are supposed to be getting paid. The money is there, and someone will take it. It should be the teacher. |

Agreed. Also, you're not only teaching and working, but also in Korea 24/7 which is in my perspective not very pleasant. I consider myself to be on one long business trip at work all the time, even if only shopping or walking down the street.
If your on a bus ride through Korea, with the kids or not, your still at work due to all the curiosities directed at your strangeness of being non-Korean. It's different than being in a place where you fit it in without drawing too much attention. Go ahead, ask for more. The Koreans are rich and present an unpleasant environment to live and work in. OK, I admit I personally don't like it here and you wonder why I stay. To finish a 1 year contract commitment I started and then I am finished with it. I won't come back a second year and then complain Korea is unpleasant. |

I and another high school teacher from our district got fooled into something like this under the initial guise that we'd be representing our school district in some sort of conference in the provincial capital. It turned out to be nothing like that, and were just on show to please a friend of a school district official at something that had nothing to do with our school district. It was also absolute hell, dealing with whining, shouting little kids all day long. In the end I didn't even take the W100,000 because as far as I can see, based on my contract, we would have been working illegally. I also missed a day when I have four of my best academic HS school classes to 'interact' with swarms of annoying, snot-nosed elementary school kids who weren't even from our school district. At least when the other teacher and I figured out what we had got roped into we decided to wear suits and ties just to make a point that we didn't originally agree to go there to clown around, which partly ruined our 'waegook display' image.
I'd strongly advise anyone thinking of doing this to be very wary and cautious indeed. Don't be surprised if you end up at a booth with little kids screaming at you all day long. |

Good lord, do you mind spamming other people threads with you whining and not mine please. My ex co teacher who was a blessing to work with called me today asking if i wanted some extra work and extra money and if i could find one other foreigner who also wanted it, they aren't force feeding you arsenic or anything. I'm doing this as a favour to her for the countless i'm in debt to her for. please naff off. |
