My first job here in Korea ends in May next year.
I quite like my school, and assuming they'd like me to renew my contract, I want one extra benefit.
In Gyeonggi, where I am, here at public schools we get 14 days vacation. In Seoul, public schools give 21 days vacation.
If hypothetically everything worked out, and they wanted me to re-sign at my current school, if I said I would on the condition I have 7 extra days vacation, to equal that of Seoul, and therefore prevent me from leaving my current job, is it likely they will agree to that, or are they more likely to say no?
Alternatively, I could take a break from May to September next year and apply to work in Seoul, but I don't want to return home for that period, do nothing for a while and waste the money I'd have saved.
What do you suggest? |

You may as well ask them and see what they say. If you decide to leave and get a job with SMOE, you could always work at a summer camp from July to August, which would give you about 1.5 months of vacation time from the end of your contract to the start of camp. I'd head to Thailand or somewhere warm during that time and relax before embarking on another year of teaching. |

I would second this plan.
Ask. They should be able to give 4 weeks per year + the extra 2 weeks for your renewal. If they say no, apply to a Seoul city school.
Take a break in Thailand or the Philippines to recharge the batteries (it is cheap enough if you get a nice pension - 100k won per week (or less) including meals.
Hit a summer camp and start with SMOE/ETIS in August. |

Ttompatz - Should I ask for 4 weeks, instead? I think I will nearer the time. If they have that time available, I may well try! |

The current contract is 14 WORKING days (~3 calendar weeks) and they do have wiggle room.
I would insist on 4 calendar weeks (not including red days) + 2 weeks for the renewal home trip.
For the record - I get 4 weeks + 2 weeks and so does the other foreign teacher at our school. |
