I have changed a lot, I would be willing to make a wager that those who knew me for the first few years would not recognise me if they just heard the conversation today.
I have moved from an agressive to a relaxed position in the years I have been here. Reading other peoples writings on Daves, I thought about my changes and wondered who else has changed. |

| I've changed very little in my time here. I see it as validation of the person I was four years ago. |

People don't change. After all, you still think too much. |

| I chose the fourth year option even though it doesn't quite apply to me. Yes, I've been here a little over four years, but I haven't really had any problems. |

Or a sign of retarded growth. It's unnatural not to change as life goes on, regardless of your environ. |

i've changed a lot.
positives:
i've adopted some korean traits that i think are good, like family values and staying busy.
living here has given me a better understanding of who i am in this world and the country i came from.
also i'm now addicted to spicy food
negatives:
have become more impatient with people that aren't curteous or polite. i have become more synical of koreans' generosity(bribes)
have become more concious of hygene and just won't eat in certain places

| 88% of the people who voted in this poll have been here longer than a year, but the median amount time the average English teacher makes it in Korea is less than a year... interesting. |

I'm from an expat family, so being in Korea didn't really change me - I was prepared for the cultural differences and annoyances (and after India, Korea seemed pretty perfect sometimes...)
I think most people who go to Korea to teach have no plans to stay long term. It's an experience, but not a life change.
I never intended to stay in Korea - there are too many places to visit to get stuck there. I have used my experience teaching in Korea to find ESL work more suitable to my interests in other countries. |

Retarded growth???? what a laugh.
----------------
I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say that like Racetraitor, I have not changed much in my 7+ years in Korea.
Actually, I found that my time in Korea has validated much of who I am and what I espouse.
Subtle change always happens, but once you been through a few big moments and passed the age of idiocy your character becomes pretty entrenched.
I have long passed the age of idiocy: Unlike some who insist on adolescent hate diatribes in their signature-lines. |

2nd year.
The biggest change for me was being able to redifine myself when I first moved here. I gave up a ton of bad habits for a more healthy lifestyle. If I could only stop binge drinking.........that will never happen in korea.
My disdain for american culture has grown enormously too. I'm not a lifer in korea, but doubt I'll move back to america for any long period of time. |
