Chicago will finish up this weekend. I hear there is MacBeth going on now. I think Lion King is on somewhere, and Carmen should be coming in November.
Anyone been to many shows in Korea? Whats it like?
Also, anyone got any scoops on what shows will be coming to Korea soon? I know there was Mama Mia before summer, Chicago now, I wonder what musical will come next. |

Are you asking about musicals, rather than operas? |

This may be a stupid question, but:
Are the plays in their original English, or is everything translated? I'd definitely go see something like Macbeth, but not particularly if it's in Korean... |

I saw Il Trovatore by the Gwangju city Opera last November. Great production. The baritone and soprano were fantastic and the orchestra was tight except for one spot. Overall I was quite impressed. I expected a piano and minimalist costuming. No freaking way it was a totally immersive experience. I had no idea. So keep your eyes on Gwangju Opera's next productions. |

Excellent post, I'm quite interested in going to a show also. Like another poster asked, are they generally still in English? I'm a little clueless, I'm not sure if these are touring Western groups or local folk.
Also, where are the Universal Art Center and LG Art Center? |

Your basic domestic Korean symphony has good ticket prices. Opera tickets are commensurate with what you'd pay in Toronto or any large NA city. Foreign shows (from Cirque to the Lion King) go for big bucks. |

From my experience, these shows are generally performed in Korean. If it is an opera, the subtitles are in Korean. My friends and I have even called to ask if the subtitles for an opera would be in English, told yes, then showed up to *surprise, surprise* no English. The opera was still amazing, but would have been better with English. |

Best thing go online, read the story of the opera. Opera is amazing if you can follow the story. |
