Having been quoted 5 MILLION won for the work I need doing am seriously considering having stuff done in Bangkok at x/mas.
I am also going to get a second opinion before I do anything, having been told I needed fillings etc (in the U.K.) but the next dentist said I needed nothing!
Anyone paid less than half a mill for a crown? |

I got work done when I was in Bangkok just this August, and the difference in price was AMAZING!
What would have cost me around 1.5 mill here, cost me 300USD in Bangkok, total, and it included the xrays, exam, scaling and cleaning, and sealing the rest of my teeth.
PM me if you want the name of the dental clinic I went to, the dentist's name, and the website. I highly recommend the place. The quality of care was above and beyond what I would have expected. |

It's odd, but I have met 2-3 people who went to BKK for extensive dental work, and all came back happy. Bad way to start a holiday, but what a place to recuperate! |

I haven't gotten a crown done but I got a cavity filled and it cost something like $12 total (maybe $17? I don't know, but it was damn cheap). The prior appointment had been for x-rays and a cleaning and it was less than 7,000 won. Someone I know got all four wisdom teeth yanked and gassed for less than 90,000 won. I don't understand where all these expensive dentists are coming from????? |

I had two crowns done. One gold, one porcelain. They were both like 250,000 or 300,000 each...can't remember it was a couple years ago. That is pretty damn cheap. In Canada that would easily cost me 1500-2000 dollars each.
Also, wisdom teeth treatment and root canal treatment are covered 100% under the Korean Health Insurance Plan. Both of those cost thousands of dollars in Canada.
5 million won...the guy was probably scamming you. Dentists are regulated by the city they are in so ALL dentists in a certain city should charge the SAME amount for a specific treatment.
Having implants done should be around 3mil a piece btw. |

I just don't understand how guys go to BKK for cheap dental work.
Did you figure out how they sterilize their instruments after they use ???
You need to know AID germ can't be killed in boiling water, it's known there is no guarantee for that, but AUTO-STERILIZE machine does.
Thailand has one of highest AID/HIV population in world, more than 1 million Thais suffer AID/HIV and most of them live in BKK.
Even in America, I made sure the dentist I was planing to visit use auto-sterilize machine. |

I got gold crowns in Korea for 300,000 each. Twice.
But I had taught his wife and daughter at my hagwon.
He said once, "I'd like to do this work for free, but I don't think you'd be comfortable with that."
I could only think, "Yeah? Try me." |

Thanks for all the responses.
I agree that work covered by the Korean National Health Insurance is a good price, sadly crowns and bridges are not. Have no idea why this is the case. It's not like it is cosmetic work or anything.
It could be more costly because dentist is in a pricy area of Seoul. Worth me shopping around for a cheaper deal.
I appreciate that I would have to pay a lot in some countries, but am used to Japan where this stuff is all covered by the national insurance. |

MissSeoul - that is a terrible assumption you have made. Bangkok is known for having high quality medical and dental practices, especially if you go to a place with international standards.

Highly recommended. Prices are quoted on the site. |

Considering Miss Seoul's breath, I doubt very much she has anything to worry about there. Without a doubt she's never seen the inside of a dentists office before...Bangers or anywhere... |

If I remember correctly, MissSeoul is a well-known K-Troll. I wouldn't worry much about her opinion; she is, after all, defending the motherland. |

The dentist I saw charges half a million won PER TOOTH WORKED ON to make the bridge. For my one tooth I need to have my existing bridge (of 2 teeth) replaced, too old to cope well with a new bridge. So total is 5 teeth- 2.5 million.
The Bangkok website mentioned somewhere on this thread seems to offer the same treatment for a thousand U.S. dollars (plus flights and a place to stay). Am considering this option, but not sure I could get all the work done within 1 trip.
Bridges are not covered by National Health Insurance.
My dentist here said fillings (cavities) are, but a co-worker went to a different clinic and was told they are not.....so who knows what to believe. |
