Personally, I'm like you. If you can't travel half-way around the world and still talk to people from back home, with all the same interests, all the same points of view, all the same prejudices...well, why keep on living? |

or you can just get a life eh mate. All i was curious about was whether there was someone here from around the same cultural area as myself. it wasnt so i could sit and critique other peoples cultures or be prejudiced towards any other country or their people. Simply that sometimes its good to have people who share the same passions and interests as yourself.
For example i can go into a bar and talk for hours to an American and have a great deal of things to discuss and talk about; but on subjects such as soccer and british humour which are passions of mine he probably wouldnt have much conversation. Also when ive travelled to other places ive found that having someone who comes from your own country nearby can help stave off homesickness when in a new country, especially during the settling in process
I wasnt asking for a collaboration of all brits so i dont have to speak to anyone from any other culture but rather to have friends from all walks of life including my own back home.
But if you want to be a smart arse cretin thats entirely up to yourself |

I remember the shock of moving to Korea and finding all the foreigners were american, it was annoying at the time, especially the people who would say 'chairs' at me everytime i said 'cheers'. All I wanted to do was to find someone to talk about Teves and Maschereno joining west ham with but there was nobody!
Ultimately though there are a lot of cool north americans out there. People tell me that there are some cool koreans as well!
Whilst a decent proportion of my best friends in Korea are English, you will be a lot happier once you stop stressing about meeting them and just go with the flow. |
