You can always ask BUT you are under contract so don't be surprised when you get laughted at or just outright ignored. They are NOT obligated to give you a raise but YOU are obligated to honor your contract.
Come renewal time it is a new game and you can play hardball as good as you can. |

Unless you get a release letter (provided you're on an E2 visa) from your current employer, you won't be able to get another job anywhere else. So yes, you are playing with fire |

You signed the contract saying you'll be paid X amount for month. Think of this as learning. Next time you can ask for more. |

Yeah, hard to see why they would view six months service as so spectacular it deserves a raise. But when and if you re-sign with the same place, definitely play hardball.
I'd start a job search plan now so that you have the back-up material necessary when it comes time for renewal. Oh yeah, and if the place thinks you want to stay for another year at this point it will definitely hurt your negotiating ability.
Actually, I'd let them know a few months ahead of time you will stay with them next year for a significant raise, but otherwise not. |

If you were under contract in North America, you wouldn't get a raise until you asked for one at the end of the contract, and then only if they felt you were worth more. To ask for one mid-contract, especially with your evident willingness to be nasty about it (using a threat) you'd be out on your ear, and will have shown them YOU won't honor a contract, so why should they? |

Everyone here is looking out for number 1... and they're not gonna do you any favors out of the goodness of their heart. Altruism aint happnin.
I felt kinda bad my first month at this hakwon, I just came to Korea and was asking another teacher a question about the taxes on my pay stub... his eyes bug out and he says YOU'RE GETTING 2.3????? THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR AND I'M ON 2.1....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was really a boot to the sack for him. So he's talking about re-signing now and I said "You're gonna ask for money $, right?" and he said "Well, I don't know, they've been good to me in the past....." |

You could always ask. If your boss does give you a pay raise, then get it written in the contract. However, don't be surprised if he says no. |
