........or anybody else who may know the answer.

Can we claim back our pension contributions and if so how do we go about it?

My contract ends the 31st of October and I'm going home on the 1st of November. If anybody knows the answer to these questions I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks. Smile

I don't think so.

The only countries that have the pension agreement with Korea are USA, Canada and, strangely, South Africa.

Tough titty for British, Irish, Aussies and Kiwis.

The South African teacher I worked with last year told me South Africans can claim the pension back. He seemed to know what he was talking about. I'd be 99% sure he's right but you should check it for yourself.

As far as I know, Australians can claim it back too - at least up to 2 years worth of it.

You need to check again.

Back that "check again" truck up and do yourself what you command others to do, as what you know is wrong.

There's a lovely link on the Australian embassy page that someone put up on the board here ( http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=9942&highlight=australia+pension ) that clearly states that Australians aren't entitled to the pension refund you say they are.

Well, I was working here on my Australian passport, and when I left (in February) they paid me back everything that I'd payed into my pension.

Interesting update on this matter.

My boss called me into the office today and told me that they made some inquiries with the Korean Pension Office.

It seems they told him if I can get a certain document from the UK pension office to show how much pension I have paid, in the UK, since I came to Korea (i.e. none!) then there's a chance they could do something to get my pension money back.

I'm not reading too much into this. If there was a way for Brits to claim back the pension money you would think someone would have discovered this before.

However, I think it's worth a few e-mails to the British pension office to check it out.

Since I arrived in Korea in 2000 I've paid approx. 2,000,000 in pension money. By the time I finish this current contract that will be up to more than 3,000,000!!!!!!

I can't believe all that money just gets lost in the system!! There must be some way to get it back.

With a bit of luck, you may one day be able to use your S. African pension to buy a can of beans and a six-pack each month. I can't wait.
