I went to Nagasaki and just couldn't leave. There is certainly much more to see there than just the bomb related sites.
If you need a tram pass for the next day make sure you buy it before
the train station closes.
I spent an entire day in the rebuilt Dejima island. (Which is no longer an island.)
There are three rows of western style houses from the turn of the century. On the right hand side of the top row is an international house where they
have food from a different country each day. They will let you use the internet for free if you buy something. They have a really good guide book
for 500 yen (~$4.80) Look for "western style houses" on the tourist map you get at the train station.
Make sure you are in shape. The town is almost all hills and staircases. There's a diagonal elevator called the skyway. When you get to the top
you can walk to another vertical elevator to go to the very top of the hill
where you can go in the top entrance to Glover Gardens. |

I just did an internet seach and there seems to be another "skyway" near the ropeway that costs money. The skyway near Glover Gardens is free.
