While watching the meeting between Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Jong-il I really wish both leaders all the best in their meetings. Despite a long history of hostilities, difference in governments and a war without end, I think this is still a good step in reconciliation, building up of trust and the tearing down of boundries, the healing of old injuries and the beginning of a healthy, happy, prosperous and united future.
No country should be divided against itself and families still torn apart. I wish them all well. |

Unfortunately, I don't think much good will come out of it. I'd love to be proved wrong, mind you.
Kim Jong-il and his cronies are playing Roh Moo-hyun and his stooges for the fools they are. Most analysts and many ordinary Koreans are pretty certain this summit is nothing more than a photo op for Roh and a chance to get his mug on the world's cameras and establish a legacy for himself before he leaves.
Unfortunately, I seriously doubt little good will come out of this for ordinary Koreans, North and South, the North Korean Government will receive plenty of treats and much needed currency to prop up its evil regime however. As you can see I'm quite jaded with the Sunshine Policy and what it has amounted to so far, one-way traffic - plenty of resources and cash going to the elites in North Korea; no change to the regime.
Good commentary on the summit and its lead-up can be found at the Marmot's Hole. |

No leader should pull such a cynical stunt in an election year nor should one meet with the likes of KJI without asking difficult questions about human rights abuses. |

This summit is a joke. Im almost wishing the North humiliates Roh. The guy doesnt deserve to leave office on any sort of a high.
Roh and DJ have basically prostrated this country before the North. They have given them everything they wanted, sabotaged the security of the nation that elected them. This summit is basically the culmination of all that is wrong with the past 2 administrations. Roh like the good little bitch he is wont dare bring up the most important issue between the two countries (the nukes) for fear of offending Kim. He will instead go and watch the Arirang festival which is basically one big anti South, anti American propaganda show. Just going to this should be considered treason. I hope Roh remembers that the kids who put this show on are basically doing slave labor. Will he care?
On another issue, Lee MB is meeting with Bush. The US is this country's only real ally. What does the spokesperson for the Blue House call it? Pro-American cronyism. So lets see, going to meet a president of your country's ally is bad but going like a *beep* to Pyongyang is fine.
Only 3 months till this band of communist assholes are out. |

I always wondered why Noh constantly has that plastic, dopey, shocked, expression on his face. Now I know.
You too would have that same expression if you were constantly taking it up the ****. |

Roh's popularity is polling around 20% right now.http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200710/200710020029.html I find it incredible that a president of any country would dare go and try to negotiate anything signifigant in the last 3 months of his office and an approval rating that is so low. What if Roh makes a bunch of agreements with the North? If the new gov't refuses to honor them than it creates a serious sh*t storm as the North will not kick and scream more than they usually do. It is incredibly irresponsible of Roh to go the North and try to make any agreements. Doesn't he realize he is not acting as his citizens want him to? His job is to be a public servant not a self-publicizing a**. He really is an a**.[/quote] |

Kimchi Cha Cha hit the nail right on the head!
Back in 2000, we had such high hopes that meeting between Kim Dae Jung and that fat turd up north would really come to something. In the end, it was all B.S.
This "summit" is nothing more than a photo-op. It's pure B.S. and everybody knows it. Kim Jong-Il will burn in h#ll and Roh Moo-Hyun would be happy to be his lap dog in Hades.
Shite on all of it! |

Results will happen.
But only if RoK gives lots of money to NK.
That will be 2 terrorist organizations this country has funded this year. |

Trust me, I'm in the same boat with a number of these views, but when it comes to politics, never are steps taken if the roads aren't paved with "gold" and photo ops.
I'm just surprised that this IS an important day in Korea there are so few posts.
No matter. Two men meeting is incomparable to the hundreds if not thousands of families that have yet to meet since their seperation half a century ago. Regardless, this is still a step.
It's easy for us to cast pebbles at their wall, but then again it's not our families sitting in a seperate country considered a "foe". Imagine if (for any fellow Americans) that our relatives in the South , or visa versa, were still our enemy after 50 years. |

The question is: How much did Roh pay KJI to get him to the table? |
