http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/story/2007/09/28/nb-youth-sentenced.html

Quote:

Two Saint John youths, who were part of a group called the Port City Aryans, were sentenced to six months of house arrest on Thursday for their roles in the attack of two Chinese students near the University of New Brunswick in the summer.

They pair had discussed "white power" and would go on "patrols" to intimidate or harm members of the Asian community, the court was told.

The sentenced youths are aged 16 and 17 and can't be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Under the house arrest rules, the teenagers will have a curfew, be restricted from the university district, will write letters of apology and compose a 3,000-word essay on multiculturalism in Canada. This will be followed by two years' probation.

Both youths expressed remorse for their actions on Thursday, but some Asian students at the university question whether the sentence was strong enough, and whether they are now safe.

"How do you say you are free?" asked Lu Shuxim, a student from China. He said he had hoped the judge wouldn't go easy on the youth.

"I plan, don't go outside at night and even I go out, I have someone with me."

Several Chinese students came to court Thursday but declined to comment as they left.

During two weekends in the summer, it was reported that Asian students were being followed, harassed and sometimes attacked by groups of youth.

On Thursday, the court dealt with only one of the assaults, which took place the evening of July 29.

Two Asian students were walking home in the early hours of the morning when they were approached in a parking lot by three young men. Racial slurs were shouted at them before a short fight occurred.

Both students suffered minor cuts and bruises and one of them was struck in the face with a wooden bed post by the 16-year-old attacker.

The 17-year-old told the court he had also brought a pipe with him for the attack but had dropped it before he was able to use it.

The third attacker, Jonathan Martin, 19, has pleaded guilty to possession of a knife and damage to public property in connection with his role in the incident. He will be sentenced Oct. 27.

The 17-year-old was described by both the defence and Crown as a follower. He said words couldn't express the remorse he felt.

Defence lawyer David Lutz represented the older teen and said his client turned to the wrong group for security.

"He's really sorry of the shame he brought to everybody and hopefully this won't discourage anyone from coming to this city from a foreign land," Lutz said.

The court heard that the 16-year-old, who was 15 at the time of the attacks, was more of a leader in the group.

He said every night he feels remorse and every morning he feels like he's waking from a bad dream.

Both of the teens will be in court again in late October.

Idiots.

One thing I'll say for Korea: even though they probably have a much higher number of racists/idiots/xynophobes per capita than Canada, you rarely hear of them getting violent with whitey.

Bullsh*t!

I've known white-power types like these back home. Their only remorse is not getting their mothers angry enough.

Damn Canadia

J/Joking.

Every nation has their idiot supremists.

Surprisingly, my K students who've traveled have named England as the most racist nation they've been to. They say they were made fun of, called racist names, etc.....

Most of the US, west coast my be the excpetion, looks at an asian and thinks, 'he/she studies hard and is smart". I know that was my perception as a youth in NYC.

Anyway, the US racists are busy with immigrant mexicans and blacks.

morons.

Saint John is about as blue collar as it gets. They aren't the brightest nor very "worldly". Any Saint John friend I had was glad to be out of there.

Just another example of Brits living up to the 'Island Monkey' tag given to us by Europeans. Land of hope and glory, my arse!

Fortunately these sorts of attacks are extremely rare here.

I'm gonna do a little digging and see if I can find out more about these wastes of skin.

PS) Isn't Halifax the official "Port City?"

The UK is probably one of the most racist places in the first world - the UK hs a surfeit of uneducated, violent scum that is strewn across the wide range of class systems but is also one of the least institutionally racist countries in the world - Something that Korea cannot even think to even boast about.

Also the UK has the highest percentage of mixed race marriages in Europe.

So it is a mass of contradictions, the thing with the UK is that a lot of the changes have took place in the 20 years.

It is no shock that any Korean would get racially abused by some glue sniffing chav in the UK - My onl suprise is that they didn't get battered into the bargain.
