The solution is simple. Don't buy an I-phone.

The solution is simple: Just use a downgrade that is all over the internet, apply the update, and re-hack your phone. Is it a pain? Too bad. ^_~

People are idiots. You know Apple was going to release updates for the iPhone.

Why would anyone want to unlock their iPhone in the US? To use it on T-Modile, the only other GSM carrier besides AT&T? T-Mobile is horrific. Even in a huge city like Washington DC, their networks is plagued with deadspots, dropped calls, and weak reception.

Apple did everyone a favor by forcing people to switch to AT&T to use their phones.

The solution is even more simple. Don't buy an iPhone. If I did, then I'm agreeing to the terms of use so Apple are well within their rights. If I don't like this, I'm not forced to buy Apple products. Plenty of other phones out there.

I somewhat disgree.

Their terms are imho not compliant with customer protection.

Agreed.

The weird part of hacking iPhones is that it is perfectly legal to do so, but if the hack adds value to the product then there can be legal issues. Presumably unlocking a phone adds value. Also unlocking the iphone completely voids the warranty both hardware and telephone support. Not a good idea with a $400 phone.

Its too bad cause the iPhone is actually a pretty good product.

I agree with all except the last part. At&t is responsible for 90% of customer complaints and issue with the iPhone. Their technical support is horrible, they have a lot of network issues especially in the mid-west and the west coast and their fees are high. Someone once made a great analogy relating to apple's relationship with at&t. Apple is like a popular, and successful businessman who is well liked and has a loyal wife (the customers). The businessman then decides he wants to get in bed with a dirty hooker (at&t) who gives the businessman an std. When the wife finds out she still loves her husband but nevers sleeps with him again and starts screwing his brother (the competition) as a result.

Apple didn't have a choice really. They chose GSM as their preferred cellular technology and AT&T and T-Mobile are the only 2 GSM carriers in the US. AT&T is better than T-Mobile.

As far as unlocking the cell phone, I think it's justified that what Apple is doing. Apple made it blatantly clear that you should not be f-ing around with their phones. People still didn't listen and they got bricked iPhones and now they are crying about it.
