|
|
Every computer I use Limewire on ends up infected with the same virus/pop up thingy.
Basically after a few eeks of using Limewire, the computer starts slowing down or freezing.
Then you get these annoying pop ups (same everytime) called 'WinVirus anti virus software' advertising anti virus software and keeps saying 'Is your computer freezing or running slow...?'
Well yeah, it is becuase of you, ya bast@rd!
It is very aggressive and persistent, I've found it impossible to wipe or get rid of and it's happened to every computer I've used Limewire on (about 4 different computers) and to none that I havent used it on (two computers.)
Why does this happen and is there a way to fix it...?
Because I want to continue to get free music and movies, but not at the risk of screwing up my work computer...!
Secondly - anything else out there as good as the free Limewire download..? (it is ace for getting free stuff, tried bit torrents and thought it was shite.)
Cheers. |

| Sounds like you're the type to click on anything that pops up after searching 'porn' on Google. Don't use Limewire, don't use Kazaa, and be smart while browsing the internet. |

| Yeah screw limewire. Haven't touched that since 2002 when I got a virus. Good to see things haven't changed. Use soulseek for a PtoP experience or get with torrents. |

Better question is why is this question in the Travel forums?
But like the others said, why use limewire? Torrents and quickshare are better anyways. |

| I use Limewire for music and Torrents for movies,,no porn,,,and have not had any problems. I run Norton antivirus and Spybot for protection. I have downloaded 600 plus songs and 200 plus movies without problems. I clean and defrag each week. Good luck. |

| You might have some file back on your drive that infects you ever time you look at it (but not while it's just sitting there, necessarily). I had one of those until I figured out what was happening. |

Turn off your system restore (help and Support from start menu), enter safe mode (F8 while booting up), do a full system scan with as many spyware programmes as you can find (just go to www.download.com ).
Get rid of internet explorer. Use firefox or opera (i use opera and have not had any spyware since i made the change, even firefox is starting to get hit now). Don't install any programmes unless it is from download.com or you trust the source.
Think of the internet as a dirty prostitute, that you have to sleep with and you will be fine |

Soulseek decent...?
Torrents was weird for me. Doesn't have the glossy, easy to use interface like Limewire.... you know, just type in a song or artist, click search, it pops up and click download... |

I fondly remember using P2P programs like Kazzaa, e-Donkey and WinMX. Before they became ridden with fakes and viruses.
P2P has one big advantage over torrents because a user of a P2P can open up a whole folder to share. Downloaders can access hundreds or even thousands of files on each participants computer. Whereas, with torrents, it's only what you actively set up to upload. With torrents you can't seed forever. Too many seeds will slow down your internet and bog down your HDD.
I have lots of music and video on my hard drive that I don't share because it would mean having way too many seeding files.
But the beauty of torrents is that you can check out the user comments before you download to see just what you're getting.
I still have a fantasy of there being a big breakthrough in filesharing legality. Then there could one huge P2P network with literally tens of millions of users!! One P2P to rule them all!!!
Imagine what a powerful resource that would be. |

Sounds like the internet before it was discovered by the general public.

I take it you're a Direct Connect fan. I was too until I got booted from the private server I was using. The public ones are horrid, but if you can find a private one, they're the best choice out there as far as file sharing.

It's a torrent site and only good for rare music. Rare music is good but 70% of what you can find on there can be found on public tracker sites too. |
