Happy chaps

Quote:
Despite greater equality, women are less content - while men are happier. So does 'having it all' for women just mean 'having to do it all'?

Quote:
In the 1970s, some 40% of women and 30% of men described themselves as "very happy". Now, it's roughly the same percentage - 30% - for men and women, and slightly more women than men describe themselves as "not too happy". Since 1976, the number of male high-school seniors describing themselves as "very satisfied with their lives" has increased from 16% to 25%, while for females its has remained stuck at 22%.

Quote:
But the big question thrown up by all this research is why women should have become less happy while opportunities for women are proliferating and they are achieving equal status to men. Happiness is, of course, about the gap between aspirations and reality, and the aspirations of women may be increasing faster than the reality. Indeed, the aspirations may be becoming almost unsupportable.

I haven't voted yet but am leaning toward, "not at all." If the word "content" were used rather than "happy," I might lean towards "probably" as I don't think "content" and "happy" are the same. Also, I don't agree with the statement: "happiness is, of course, about the gap between aspirations and reality." I don't see hapiness that way.
I found this part of the article to be kinda funny:
Quote:
But the most surprising finding was that men found spending time with parents unpleasant only 7% of the time compared with 27% of the time for women. A likely explanation is that men are sat on the sofa with their fathers drinking beer and watching a football match, whereas women are in the kitchen talking with their mothers about the deficiencies of their husbands and children and the plethora of family problems.

Yes, a likely explanation. Very Happy

This is clear evidence that barefoot, pregnant, and making her man a delicious meal in the kitchen is vital for a woman's happiness.

The flip-side (and there always is one) is that she has to be a *beep* in the bedroom.

We have come full circle.

Well it is well known women are much more likely to suffer from depression.

I guess that is a factor.

A good question may be: Are beautiful women less happy than hot guys?

I thought male suicide rates were higher? Maybe women are unhappier but less likely to do themselves in.

I think men are happier. We seem to derive our happiness from other sources. I guess this is the best example. Its by browneyedgirl in the general forum

Quote:
Ive already learned a fair amount of the Korean language and thats the mainly why I wanted to go there instead of China or Japan.

I just dont want to be lonely there.

She wants to come to Korea. Notice what she is looking for. Women tend to seek out happiness from others. relationships etc being most important to them. They out a lot of stock into getting happiness from others. Looks become important and most of the time women arent satisfied. Men tend to be more inner oriented. I always derived pleasure and happiness from things I would do for mysef: hobbies, activities. These were things oriented towards myself, not others.
