A few questions:

What is your opinion of drunks?

(People who regularly get drunk are running from something: my opinion)

Do you like getting drunk?

(No, I hate not being in control)

Ever do things you felt ashamed of while on a drunk?

(I have: Most recently some not very nice things I said to people)

1. They lack self control, and they have no self esteem.

2. Not often. I have not gotten pissed drunk in over a year.

3. In the past but not anymore.

Actually, I have gotten better with alcohol since living here. I have seen too many people drink and make asses of themselves. I don't want to be like them.

depends on the drunk. bring all the psychology you want into it. it could be, though, that they just enjoy drinking.

Getting drunk is damm good fun. I try to do it about once every 2 years. Trouble is, I always get into trouble when I'm drunk - woman trouble, that is.

To all you young fellas out there - be warned: getting drunk - and looking into those eyes - can get you a life-time sentence of saturday lawnmowing and sunday dinners (and bu g g er all fishn').

Some of my best times are on the drink! 99% of the time I handle my drink very well. I am leaning on a little break here for awhile. Maybe taking a month off. Can't hurt. I am not a weekend warrior, but at the sametime I have never gone a month without a drop.

Korea is a hard place to not have a drink. It seems alot of socializing revolves around the bar. I recently went to Seoul and got blind with some friends (like I said 99%). This is making me think about a 30 day sabatical.

shameful stuff - I was drunk too, but not ashamed cos she was hot... Razz

I'm a bit of a drunk, chiefly because it's the only option in Korea.

In the US, I rarely drink.

I like the high falootin allegations about people who drink regularly, though. The one in the OP is the best: you are running from something! Only thing I see myself running from is more creative entertainment options.

It'd be a lot higher if they were half as in control of their habit as they think they are. Other than that, they can do whatever they want with their lives as long as they don't get in my face.

I've always known my limits and have never gone past them. But these days booze does nothing but make me sick. So I guess the answer is "no"

Just like Qinella, I drink in Korea, but very very little outside of Korea. I just went 2 weeks without a drink after having drank 3 to 4 times a week for 8 months in Korea. I thought it was because there is no bud here, but I ceased drinking for 2 weeks with no bud back in the states recently. I know I drink on any evening in Korea, because there just isn't nothing for me here other than this job that I am committed to finishing for financial reasons and the fact I voluntarily committed myself to 1 year in Korea.

What is your opinion of drunks? Drunk ajoshis wearing their vests and staring at me while talking garbage. Yuck. Can't stand all these heavy drinking and smoking men commonly seen anywhere and everywhere in Korea who are nothing more than rednecks or hillbillies. At least they don't usually get physically confrontational in Korea, just rude such as on streets and in buses or anywhere you are confined with limited space with these smelly drunk ajoshi guys. When sober, They are usually OK, but not friendly such as when driving taxis or working in another capacity. Just like anywhere else, some are mean drunks and some are friendly drunks.

(People who regularly get drunk are running from something: my opinion) Is true in western cultures, but Korean middle to older age male lifestyle and expected behavior calls for heavy smoking and soju drinking. It is true these drunks have insecurities, especially when presented with a situation where they don't know what to think or do such as dealing with foreigners who do not fit into their simply one track scheme of living.

Do you like getting drunk? No, only slightly buzzed. I hate vertigo (spinning dizzy world) and puking. The first time I got this drunk, I was 13 years old and thought I was dying a dead boy for sure which terrified me into controlling my alcohol 99% of the time. The last time I can remember having vertigo and puking was when I tried 2 small green bottles of soju last January. Yucky.

(No, I hate not being in control) Agreed. That would be scary to pass out in public or be so drunk you can't tell a taxi driver where to go, not to mention the miserable puking and vertigo experienced.

Ever do things you felt ashamed of while on a drunk? Yea, like crying loudly all night long on several nights in Korea such as when I received news my mother was dying and how insecure I have become about being in Korea in general. I cried many drunk nights this year over feelings of lacking in many areas such as not fitting in locally and being homesick.

You know if you are urged to drink several nights a week when you're not really an alcoholic type, your not living correctly to be blunt about it. My issue here is having no sense of community, no social life, no stores and services that understand my needs, no one I can talk to, and being too confined feeling in the most homogeneous place on Earth where only 1 race and nationality fits in for which I am not a member of. I just flew back to Korea during the past 2 days dreading it as if I were going to a 3.5 month prison sentence of anxiety and have made my mind up that me being in Korea is not an appropriate match outside of my last several months of this contract. Despite all that, I realize I learned a great deal so far about the world and even my home country that I didn't know before nor most people at home would be aware of. I hope to take this experience and new knowledge in achieving something more in my career and move on to a happier lifestyle.

Everybody has something they drown in. Some drink, some gamble, some play Dungeons and Dragons. It doesn't mean that anyone who drinks, smokes or whatever has a problem. Most people who drink do so because they want to (at least from the West, not here in Korea) and can do so responsibly (and can even be irresponsible in a responsible way).
