Why on earth would my public school want a copy of my transcripts? I was asked to hand them over today being sick of all the document requests lately I told them if they wanted them call immigration and ask for a copy.

What gives with the flood of request lately?

One word, mehamrick: "Lazy." It must be too difficult for them to pick up the phone when "the foreigner" is right there in the room.

What gets me is the fact that they are supposed to verify it BEFORE you get your E2. On another note, I am always mystified by the lack of competence in this country. For instance, you work in a place for a year. Some news story pops up about the 'bad' foreign English teacher and what a problem they cause. Then, Koreans being insure rush to verify the SAME PERSON THEY HAVE VERIFIED BEFORE, as if your qualifications changed between the time they checked it the first and second time and the time you are asked to 'do it again'.

It's ridiculous. But, instead of just complaining, I am offering up a suggestion (though it doesn't mean much in this medium):

Compile a list of accredited universities that can easily be referenced (e.g. EXCEL). Then, when you get the foreign applying for an E2, cross-reference their university with said list. Bam. Done in a few seconds. Then, if the university happens to not be on the list, check it out for accreditation and if it pans out, add it to the list! Boom! Done! Easy fix to the fake degree problem.

Man, I should go into politics in Korea!
Very Happy

i have tried so hard to understand their ridiculous ways....it's 2007 and korea is one of the most technologically advanced and wired countries in the world...but they MUST HAVE YOUR ACTUAL DEGREE!!!!!!! that is the most retarded thing about the visa process.....there are 100 easier ways to go about it

an electronic check of ulumni, a phonecall, even JUST the transcripts...

anyone can buy a piece of parchment paper and have GD degree faked...at my uni they are replaceable for 35 bucks...so a degree is easier enough to forge if you really wanted to

and its a hassle to gather all these documents everytime you take a new job, cant they keep records???

Ummm.......
http://www.chea.org

Unfortunately, that would burden the verifier with having to comprehend English.....god forbid!!!

Hi Last,

Thanks for the link. However, Chea is not the only accrediting body out there ergo my idea about compiling a comprehensive list.

Just in case, I went ahead and ordered 3 official transcripts for my wife and me. And, I ordered degree verifications as well. They are all now in my possession in case somehting stupid arises.

It doesn't hurt to have back-ups handy.
