I am thinking if I should ship stuff home. or dump it. I have a lot of things I really want/sort of need.
How do I ship stuff home, and about how much does it cost? thanks all. |

How much do you have? If you want to send furniture or other large items look into renting a container or part of a container. 2,000 - 3,000 should be enough to send the contents of a 24-32평 apartment back home. At least that's what I've heard from a few friends who have done it. |

no furniture. Just clothes, books, dishes(korean ones that I really like), and some other things. The computer I will carry.it's slim. If I have to get rid of the monitor, I can; but I would like to take it.
I can only carry 2 50 pound bags back. I really have to see exactly what I want to take back. It may be cheaper to buy new things.
The computer for sure I want to take back. |

Nope, do not have a blender.
Yes, selling is great. We make money, and people can buy cheap. Depends on location. I am in Gangneung.
I just want to take home personal things. what ever I can sell, I will.
I also have bought used stuff, that was great.
I also have a good size table top oven that is wonderful. But I am not leaving till mid January, and I need that until then. |

Pack your heaviest things in your carry-on. It will be a pain to carry around, but it will help keep your bags under 50 pounds. Most airlines won't check the weight of your carry-on. Just make sure it will fit in the overhead storage area. |

Yes, oneof, you are right. I have done that when I have brought things home for people from here.
This time when I go home I will not have to drag things; I will have my son or sister pick me up, and I will take a direct flight.
But you know that when you have been here a long time, and when you finally want to go home, you have usually got more things then you came with.
Granted, we pick up lots of crap, but I have things I want to bring back, and if it worth it, I will do it. |

I flew in on Cathay and was forced to pay an extra 200 ($400) as my suitcase was 10kg over the 20kg limit. Additionally, a friend of mine who is back in NYC for 10-days had to pay an extra $50 with Northwest as her case was over a couple of kilos.
Surface mail is a cheap option though not as cheap as container ship. |

Korean post office. They also have boxes for sale. If it can't be shattered, mail it home surface. May take 2-3 months but it's cheap. |

Thanks for the post office advice. I will go there tomorrow if I get the chance, and find out how much it cost to mail boxes home. When I get the information, I will post it. |

I went to the post office today. and the prices to mail boxes from Korea to the USA, are:
Slow mail, at least 2 weeks
1kg 9,000 not insured, insured 21,000
2kg 18,000 not insured, insured 27,700
That sounds fine, but this next part is not. She said that the size of the box can be no larger then 140mm x 90mm.
I put my sneekers on the doctor's scale today, and they weighed .5kg So for sure mailing stuff home can be cheaper then extra weight in luggage.
Next week I will actually take a box to be mailed, and I will post the exact price.
You sure can't buy 2 new pairs of sneekers for 9,000 won |
