If somebody, namely myself, starts a public school job as a single person and then gets married, is the school obliged to provide a bigger apartment or is it something they may do?!!!

Thanks in advance.

They wouldn't be obligated - almost all public school contracts contain a clause to effect that once you agree to your housing (or allowance) it cannot be changed.

That being said, if you got married I think most public schools would be willing to get you a bigger place. If not, you could always make a condition for renewal... or move on.

Speaking from experience - they will NOT change your apartment until renewal time (your contract and/or their lease).

They may change your apartment at renewal time or they may replace you because it is easier and cheaper than changing the apartment (depending on where they are and how much they like you).

yeah, I highly doubt they would change your apartment just because you got married (though you are entilted to a 7 day paid vaction). However, during the next hiring period (i.e. March or September) I bet they would be willing to give you housing allowance and assist you in finding a new place, though if your spouse is not also an employee, I highly doubt they would actually find and pay for a new place for you. start saving your key money now!
