It sounds reasonable to do this so that flight arrangements can be made, but I've heard so much about identity theft. Is needing this copy common protocol?
Btw, the agent was making these arrangements, but now the school director insists that I deal with him and his North American travel agent, directly. So the passport copy needs to be sent to the travel agent.
I was asked to send the following to the school director:
your resume, signed contract, 2 passport sized photos, a copy of passport photo page [I guess, since this is going to the travel agent, I won't send it also to the school director,] an original bachelor degree or a copy of bachelor degree that has been notarized by Korean Embassy and a sealed transcript from the university (It must not be opened by someone). The envelope of the transcript must be stamped. Your notarized B.A and transcript must have been certified within 3 month.
I'm not sure if the school director is trying to screw the original agent, but this is the second time he's tried to bypass the agent. Talking to the agent on the phone, he, also, wanted a copy of the first page of my passport to see if he could find a cheaper/better flight. I mentioned that he didn't need my passport info to cost out other flight options. He agreed. Hmmmm. |

| It's normal. I wouldn't worry about it too much. |

This has nothing to do with any travel agent. Do you mean a recruiter?
It is all normal EXCEPT:
If you send a Korean Embassy certified copy of your degree you do NOT need to send the original. It is one or the other - not both.
You must send a copy of the ID page of your passport BECAUSE the documents will be sent to immigration to get your visa confirmation number. Do not send your original passport because YOU will need it to get your visa from the embassy after you get the number AND you will need it to get on the airplane. |

I'd never heard of requiring a passport to make flight arrangements but...
My daughter came from New York for Chuseok and we went to Beijing. I bought the Korea to Beijing tickets here and the ticket agent had to have a copy of the information page of her passport to make those flight arrangements, so she had to fax it from the US. |

| In Korea the travel agent always needs a copy of the passport to actually book the flight if it is an international one. Hell, even when traveling around the country they want to know the names, ages, and sex of all the people that are traveling. LOL...just a different system here. Don't know what to tell you about the director and agent trying to bypass each othere...never heard of that one, but I work at a public school... |

| Yes, it's okay to send it to the travel agent, but it is also normal for your director to need a copy as well, as this will go to immigration to get your visa issuance number. So you DO need to send a second one to him as well, as he's requested. |
