Hello, I think I am going to get fired. I can't understand and follow the two teacher's guides and Minsu text. Our school uses two guides and takes parts from each to put a lesson together. Sometimes there is not enough info in English to understand what I have to do. The school also uses a CD Rom.The periods are also not numbered right, for example Period 1 is really Period 2.
I don't know what I am to teach sometimes until the teacher and students walk into the room. A few teacher's give me advance warning. I have 21 classes to keep track of, and I don't think I am doing a good job.
If I get fired do I have to leave the country for a tourist visa? I would like to stay and move to a larger city. I am in a small town, and the people are very friendly but I feel like I am living under a microscope.
Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

If you get fired ask for a letter of release and for them to cancel your visa. Make sure you check with immigration about your status when you do get fired. If your Hagwon can't even make a curriculum work then they probably know shit about immigration procedures, they sometimes just say you ran away and don't bother to cancel it. You should be given a 14 day exit order, enough time to find a new job(you may be able to extend this, not sure). No need to come back in on a tourist visa as you'll just have to do another visa run when you find a new job. If you start to panic get a public school job as these are more reliable.

Also remember by law they cannot fire you without giving you 30days notice or 30days pay.

Sounds like you are in a public elementary school.
They are NOT going to fire you.

What province are you in?

There are English copies of the guides available on-line for your classes.
These are for Gyeonggi province but are similar to those in the rest of the country.

Click the tabs for grade 3/4/5/6. Download them and save them on your computer at home or work. You will need Hangul to open them (.hwp files). Your school should have a copy to install on your computer if it isn't already.

Thank you, I looked at the site the lessons are different.
Thank you for your advice and support. I will wait and see what happens.
I live in a southern province and most of the teacher's are friendly. I think part of the problem is that the school is not use to having a native teacher.

Yeah that "minsu text" gave it away.

I agree w/ ttompatz, they won't fire you. If I were you I'd sit down w/ your co-teachers or vice-principle and explain to them that you are having problems w/ insufficient prep for classes. If you are working at an elementary school it should be no problem w/ knowing what you teach. Just ask them the day before what unit and lesson number you have to do the next day.

Even if the texts are different, go ahead and use the Gyeonggi one. If they say the activities were bad/not useful just reference the GEPIK website; I doubt they'll knock a product of Korea. One way to cover yourself is to make sure you're planned. Go ahead and plan from the GEPIK book/lessons, or find your own stuff, but have something ready to cover your time!

Here's a link to download a Hangul reader if you don't have the proggie anywhere:

You are an assistant teacher, so just tell your co-teachers they need to fill you in on what you're supposed to do and consult with you in more detail. When I was doing public elementary I would talk with my co-teacher about the next lesson for about thirty minutes.

G.P.I.K. won't fire you. The worst they can do is not renew your contract.
Last year some GEPIKs trashed a hotel room and they were not even fired.
