Apply directly. Ask one of the public school teachers on this board how to do it.

i'm at a public school, i went through a recruiter called Canadian Connections. great recruiter, they help you throughout your time here, plus they've sent me a contact list of teachers in my area, and when they brought over new people in September they invited all of us for a bar night. you can email them whenever you need help.

they're not just for canadians, i know some americans who have gone through them too.

however, they don't recruit for positions in seoul

Sorry to hijack, but if anyone knows someone who is leaving a public school early in the summer (ideally before the SMOE program starts)...I'd really like to find a connection to someone who might be able to help me into a public school at a pretty odd time.

LOL brother

Your coming back? How's the lady? fill me in on your SE asia trip.

been a long time.

Anyway same phone number same email. So same-same

If you want more information just go to the EPIK website.
Oh, and you can apply from there without a recriuter.
and If you want earlier than march just apply directly to a POE

and Guess who works for the BOE in korea now.

I got my public school position (at an odd time) through OK Recruiting. They're really great, got me out of some trouble and have been really helpful.

I got my public school position from PMing someone on this board. On the whole, I am quite happy with the situation. We work directly through City Hall (not the Board of Education).

I hear that the contracts in our area are going to be revamped in a major way for the new recruits in March.. the district really does try to keep us happy here in Gimhae.

We also get the opportunity to do extra work (legit and paid well) through City Hall from time to time, if wanted.

PM me! Wink

I also work in Gimhae at a public school, and my job has turned into an absolute nightmare: think of your typical crappy hagwon story. I have been a teacher for 5 years and have never experienced such unprofessional and disrespectful behavior as I have here. I'm not going to give out the name of the school yet, as I still am trying to turn the situation into something positive, but you can be sure that if the situation goes south, I'll print the names of the guilty here!

It all depends on the school you get placed at, something over which you have little control. There are some great schools here, and I think it's fair to say that most of the people here are happy enough, but to be safe, I would recommend talking to the person you will be replacing; while public schools are in many ways better than hagwons, at least on paper, most of your experience will depend on the attitudes of your co-teacher and the school's principal and vice-principal.

Good luck.

Very true GMS! The public school system can be hit and miss with the school/schools you are placed at! Even co-worker relationships become luck of the draw.

Good luck with your situation.

I got my public school position in Seoul through Footprints Recruiting. Basically they were a liason, and then I interviewed with the Office of Education directly. I could be mistaken, but I think if you want to be in Seoul at a public school, Footprints has the largest number of positions alloted to them.

I am at a great school, but will be leaving at the end of February when my contract is up. Kinda sad to go, but I think it's time I do something else.

The S.M.O.E. is hiring again for positions starting March 1. Applications are accepted only through designated recruiters. It is important to note that if the SMOE receives your application from more than one recruiter, you will be automatically disqualified regardless of your qualifications. So, take this as a friendly warning to only apply for these positions through one source.

Damn, Ben Glickman is spreading his rumors all over the place, this is the 3rd thread for me to see with his duplicate post on it.

The rumor about SMOE disqualifying people for apply to multiple recruiters is a rumor. They don't do that. My friend hired last summer applied to multiple recruiters.

Want to avoid the rumors and paranoia? Go here and apply directly: http://etis.sen.go.kr/

You are serving no purpose by spreading information which is incorrect. If you go to the ETIS website, it will direct you to apply through one of a several designated recruiters. If you apply through more than one recruiter, your file will be rejected. Here is a quote from an e-mail from the SMOE program coordinator regarding this issue:

"If this guy tried to apply specifically for SMOE through multiple recruiters, I won't interview him." - Kelly Ye.
