I will be visiting Korea in January and would like to see some tourist attractions around Gyeongju. The Gyeongju National Museum, Bulguksa Temple and Bomun Lake area would interest me.
I do not speak Korean and was wondering whether there were any guided tours available.
Are there any other points of interest in that area that I could include? |

I never seen guided tours, but there are 2 tourist offices, one at the train station and one at the bus station, that will give you maps and probably speak English as they did for me last July. I rode buses and taxies around and took my own tour which is what people typically do. I am sure you can get tours in Seoul, but the rest of the country is left for you to trek on your own. Yes, the language barrier is a problem in understanding what, when, and where to do fun things in the line of getting the most out of your trip. You can navigate yourself to historic sites, temples, and museums with no problem though, but knowing about cultural events, concerts, and special events can be a problem though you get lucky at times and just find things by accident. |

Thanks Sojourner1. I had to have a chuckle about the "fun" bit. I am 64 yrs old and it doesn't take much for me to have "fun" these days. |

Forget the tours and just hit up tourist information. Stay at the Hanjin Hostel (???) and the guy speaks some English and can help you out. |

Yuck. Grotty and overpriced. Take the same amount of money and stay at any other of the multitude of new, clean yeogwan near the bus terminal. |
