So if you click on usergroups there's one group, with a few people, and it doesn't make any sense or serve any purpose.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to let users set up usergroups here based on region or common interest. I mean, people regularly post looking for friends in Bundang, or Daegu, or Icheon, or Incheon, or wherever, and it might be a convenient way to share information. I guess in the years between the first group was set up and now, facebook, yahoo, and other forums have filled the void. But, I figure if that button's gonna be there, why not make use of it?

Smee,

You point out a rather loud weakness of this type of forum. But there are many others and this kind of forum is quite the dinosaur. It is only still existing because of inertia and the lack on initiative on the part of others.

About groups. Users should be able to forum their own organic groups/members/membership criteria and this should help foster discussion and the freedom of "knowledge" and ideas. Dave's does nothing of the sort.

My own community allows for users to design and create their own educational communities within the portal and this is of great benefit, considering the demographics of EFL teachers in Korea and most parts of the world.

Further, Dave's is just infantile when it concerns the ability to embed video/presentations, share music, download video/music and upload/share files....on a proper site (ie. Modern/up to date) this should be common place and free.

Also ads should be unobtrusive and not overtly cannibalistic. For example my community has a small ad that blends in with the community so as to be unnoticeable. Here it is capital first, people last.

Other, so many other weaknesses. Real inability to have an inhouse email server which you can import email contacts. Inability to search with any efficiency nor tag. No making of friends. No homepage or ability to blog......wow....this is a dinosaur. I'll stop there....

I know it takes all types but I also want to call this dinosaur what it is. An anomoly. Like the elephant man....

DD

That whole top line of links is pretty useless.

Let's see what we get here...

FAQ: Click on it, an empty page opens. That's the sort of crap I'd pull if I were running this site. JUST... to fcuk with people.

Search: Hey, you just know from all the threads praising the search feature that it's a stroke of sheer genius. (Except here, by "praising" I mean "dumping on", and by "genius" I mean "the opposite of genius")

Memberlist: My personal favourite of all the little buttons on this messageboard... which hasn't a single registered member. Confused

Usergroups: Okay, that one not working actually doesn't surprise me. Managing that, esp. subscribe/unsubscribe features, would require far too much effort by the moderators.
