Korea Post Under Fire for Xenophobia
Quote: |
Korea Post in August began to crack down on some 10,000 bank accounts held by foreigners suspected of being used for fraud. When it was unable to reach account holders after calling them three times, it temporarily suspended withdrawals from those accounts. To put it right again, foreign account holders must visit a post office to confirm their identities. |

Well, at least the legal system is trying to change it in Japan. Korea hasn't even gotten that far yet. |

More attention should be paid to the last two sentences of the article:
Quote: |
"Suspension of bank services of all foreign residents based on the misbehavior of some is a typical case of opting for convenience rather than doing things right," one bank official says. More consideration will be required now that there are over 1 million foreign residents here.
|
Korea is in the phase of consciousness-raising. This is good. This is a far better reaction than a defensive, drag-your-feet response. The article is in the most conservative paper in the country. If even they are behind the movement to reduce xenophobia, it's a very good sign. [Yes, I know the whiners find it more emotionally gratifying to just point and laugh.] |

Yup, happened to me. They chose the Friday before Chuseok to freeze the account. Assfaces.
They have my cell number, but they didn't call it once. |

Yeah it will be tough for poor Alice. She will be able to get a huge divorce settlement and she is pretty hot. My heart bleeds for her. |

Hmmmmm Your logic is a bit off. Its the conservative forces in Korea that are for more engagement with the outside world. Its the leftist progessives that are the xenophobes in this place. |
