I'm a Yankees fan and I'm trying to not rub the Mets' meltdown in.
It's a real contrast. One team was garbage for a good long while and made a strange push while the other started out stong and collapsed.

| I can feel your pain, kinda. I am a Padres fan and tomorrow they will play the Rockies for the NL wild card spot. I am more of a casual baseball fan, but a huge sports junkie, mostly football and basketball. I explained to my fiancee that I could never be that big of a baseball fan for this reason, that reason being the Mets collapse. A football season consists of 16 regular season games (NFL). I take losses rather hard, but even if my team has a horrible year, I will only suffer for about 6-10 of those losses. Baseball has that super long 162 game season, so following your team can lead to several heartbreaks throughout the season. I have no idea if this makes sense as I am typing this with next to no sleep as I was up all night watching the Dolphins and then the Chargers lose. All that said, I do feel the pain Mets fans must be going through. |

If you think being a Mets fan is tough, peruse my list of favorite teams....
MLB: Montreal Expos(R.I.P.), Blue Jays(1987:lost seven straight at end of Sept. to give East to the Tigers)
NFL: Vikings(lost all 4 Super Bowl appearances in '70s), Saints('nuff said?)
NHL: Maple Leafs, Canucks('nuff said?)
CFL: Saskatchewan Roughriders(the Chicago Cubs of the CFL) |

Alyallen: You're absolutely spot on. A glutton for punishment. Call it the martyr's syndrome, if you like.
But cheering for a sports team, esp. a professional one, is irrational at best and yet it's a diversion in one's mundane life. I almost feel sorry for Yankees, Montreal Canadiens, etc., etc., fans. How bloody boring it must be to win all those championships...hell, when one of my teams make the playoffs(only to be crushed, as a general rule, of course)it's a high that surely can't be appreciated by the fans of elite teams.
Case of beer, a group of similarily demented fans of loser teams and a wide screen TV: to use the old beer commercial line: "It doesn't get any better than this." |

| I can feel for you OP. That was a pretty heartbreaking way to go. My Mariners fell apart early in September, which isn't quite as bad. I'd be pretty pissed if I were you. |

Mike Coolbaugh was a first base coach for the Tulsa Drillers. The former major leaguer was killed July 22.
Shaken by Coolbaugh's death, Rockies first base coach Glenallen Hill now wears a helmet.
Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki said awarding the family a share was the right thing to do.
"We're obviously happy with the decision,'' Tulowitzki said on Thursday. "I hope they are, too, and I'm sure they will be.'' |

actually...as a phillies fan...im content with winning the NL east....plus the mets lost and took over the '64 phils blow up...kaz matsui (former met ) beat up on the phils and I know that is spiting Mets fans and hopefully J-roll wins the MVP. |

...Yeah, but you could be a Korea football/soccer fan. Imagine if your team hadn't ever won jack shit, yet you still had the mandatory illusions and huge ego.
At least the Mets have played for and won titles... |
