Thailand: Vaccinations and Travel Insurance?

I'm planning on going backpacking in Thailand soon. I might also go to at least one other country in South East Asia too, but for the most part, Thailand is my main destination and the main focus of my trip.

For those of you who are familiar with Thailand and/or South East Asia, would you recommend getting vaccinated and/or getting travel insurance?

If so..

-In regards to getting vaccinated, which vaccines would you recommend? Against which diseases? Where is a good place to get this done? Cost?

-In regards to travel insurance, any recommendations of where and who to get this from? Cost? Is it true that one can do this at the Inchon airport?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Very Happy

Vaccination wise I would think about getting vacinated against

BG Fever
Dredlockitis
Braideritise,
Talkingaboutkarma syndrome,
Imatightcuntandwillargueover10Bahtitis (aka Israeli syndrome),
KSR fever
and possibly if it's still required

Impervioustoonesunwashedbodyodour syndrome.

yes you can get traveller's insurance at the airport if you are a registered foreigner and are coming back. If not lonely planet has some and i've used them and claimed on them. pretty good.

as for jabs. As long as you are up to date with all your shots, then you should be sweet as.

Worst thing I've gotten during my time in SEA was some 'oh dear god I want to die' food poisoning and heat exhaustion.

hahaha --- i'd give you a greenie if we were on TD right now.

Anyway, I've never gotten vaccinations before going to LOS and never will. Never gotten insurance either, but I probably should just to be safe. The worst I've gotten in food poisoning from a restaurant in Phuket Town -- was sick for a week and lost 20 lbs.

worldnomads.com is what we ususally use. You will need a credit card to buy it online. Some people complain about that, but ITS 2007 SO GET AN F*ING CREDIT CARD AND GROW UP! Sorry, but worldnomads is good and you can extend your period of coverage and countries covered during your trip.

I have a family member in insurance and I've heard so many horror stories, I think anyone living/travelling without insurance is insane. Yeah, I'm young and I think an extra 20$ or whatever is a drag on my trip. Then I slip on a rock while hiking and stub a toe. I'm reminded of the guy my sister told me about who slipped a little to the left and broke his leg, laid in a rural 'hospital' for 10 days, got gangrene, lost his limb to a saw and some whiskey, woke up to some rats munching on the stump, had to eat the cost of airfare home after two months and will be paying off this 'service' for the rest of his life.

Yeah, here's my 20$. Where do I sign up?

Screw the gecko, I'm totally a walking commercial for insurance now.

Mr. Blackcat, where was this alleged story? Not that I don't believe it but damn that's insanity. How would have insurance helped him in said situation? I could see this happening in the states but not SE ASIA !!!
