It seems that the students at my school are only interested in a few things, those things being sex, dating, and computer games.

I'm in the process of planning a lesson on teaching vocab for attractive qualities, i.e. "I like a man with (big muscles) (a flat stomach) (a six pack) (a cute behind)" and "I like women with (a nice behind) (shapely legs) (a small chest / face)." I asked my coteachers what they think, and they said it's an interesting idea but should be careful not to make the content too "sexual."

Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should include and what I had better omit?

I'd leave out behinds for men and women, and chests for women.

I would add other qualities too like intelligence, skills... you know like computer hacking skills, numchucks skills, bowhunting skills...

I could never do this with my high school kids... maybe if it were an all girls school... too bad it's not.

Korean teens seem to know "my type." Why not do something on "Who's your type" and focus more on characteristics of personality and behavior. I think learning these descriptive adjectives would be useful, and if the kids do happen to get into physicla characteristics, well, it happens. If you run a search on "personality" here in the job discussion forum you'll find a few personality quizes you could do.

I have a stack of teen mags like Seventeen, Teenvogue, and Cosmogirl I use for descriptions with my vocational classes. I'll put them into groups of four and get them to choose a model from the magazine and describe him or her in a fill-in-the-blank type of excercise. It's probably not the most productive use of time but it's good for dummies - I mean, remedial learners - as I can go around and give each group some individual attention, pointing out what things like skirt, boots, blond, crimped, etc. mean.

I know you have a younger group, but...

I have used the "models" from http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com to teach my uni freshman about other standards of beauty. The students (just out of high school at the time) really enjoyed this. You need to set ground rules though:

1. Everything you say about the model must be positive. (Thye will rip her to shreds if you don't say this).
2. You must find at least three things you like about the person. ("She looks like she has a nice personality" was banned).

For male models, I went with different ethnic backgrounds. Most American magazines make this an easier task, as "ethnic is in" at the moment as far as models. I didn't have much luck with British magazines for some reason.

I also did a comparison of the Korean editions versus the American/British editions of popular fashion magazines (Vogue, Glamour, GQ, etc.); you might want to stick with teen magazines ("many sex teacher!"). The students had to compare and contrast. Even my low students were able to handle this (though I was uncertain they would get it).

These activities work better as group activities. Hope that helps.
