My public school has just asked for a list of graduates from my university.
I have absolutly no idea how to do that.

They want you to show them your name on your university's alumni page in order to verify your degree.

There are a few other threads about this already, but I logged into the alumni area of my uni's website, and printed out my page from the alumni directory. It has the uni name at the top, my name, and the degree I got. My school was happy with that.

Most schools don't have lists available for public viewing like that due to the threat of Identity theft, and rightly so. I just verified mine w/ www.studentclearinghouse.com and the school will refund the $6.50 for processing it...took all of 5 mins.

I cannot produce a list like they want. I went to a big University and many people graduated the same time I did on the same day.
My coteacher was literally yelling at me this morning because I could not produce a list. I handed over a card that had the University information and who she should call if she wanted verification.
It's Thanksgiving weekend in Canada too I told her and she went BALLISTIC because no one is working in the office.
She asked me as well why my school isn't on that student clearing house and it seems that it is mostly for school in the States.
Sorry but this is beginning to annoy me.

She went insane because this needs to be done by the end of today, and typically, they left it to the last minute to let you know.

My co-teacher went nuts also. I graduated from a UK University, so there is no way it will be on that American list. UK Data Protection laws also prohibit storage of information on unsecure systems (such as those connected to the internet) and prohibit organisations from sharing information with any organisation in a country with poor data protection laws (such as Korea). She started panicing and saying "Well what can we do".

I said she could always fire me and give me 60 days pay, and I will go back to England with the cash, get new transcripts and come back and find a job in another school. That calmed her down a little Smile

I've also had trouble with this.
I went to a small uni in Australia and we have no database that lists our alumni. To give this information would be a violation of privacy, anyhow and my school won't do it.

They did say they would accept an email confirming that I graduated in 2003, though.

I think the Korean co-teachers are stressed because the GPOE is probably breathing down their necks and all of this has to be done by the middle of this week.

It really would have made more sense to do this before granting E-2 visas and bringing teachers over here!

Mine wasn't for public viewing, either. I would be really angry if my school had my address out for everyone to see! I logged in to the alumni area, where there is a alumni directory that you opt in or out of. I printed out the page with my info on it, while logged in, where it said my name and date of graduation. They can't log in and see it, they can only look at the printout I gave them. My co-teacher said it was fine. So if your uni has an alumni directory, that might work for you.

I don't know about giving out a list of graduates with other people's names on it. There are rules against that in a lot of places, and I personally wouldn't want my name being given to some random person in a country I have never been to.

Let them panic...the semester is almost over! 60 days pay will almost take you to the end. Let them figure it out...give them the phone and fax numbers and an email address. Don't forget to tell them to have a nice day! My guess is that no one will get fired over the general incompetance that this exercise is showing. Maybe they will actually try to check degrees before they hire people next year, but I doubt it.

Hand over some numbers and sit back and enjoy the chaos. It is fun too watch them sweat and run around like idiots.

Yes, the joke in this is that they are the ones getting all nervous and upset about it.

I'm sure the intent was to worry the foreigners.

Note to government dumbasses: It didn't work. The Koreans are the ones who are sweating over this.

By the way, have you checked the degrees on your teachers yet? Not just the hagwons.... the private/public gov't schools?

someone should contact the newspaper about this. but then...no one would read it except us.

checking is checking but a list of people you graduated with doesn't make any sense.

we can all thank Shin Jeong-ah who tarnished reputations of schools overseas therefore why we have to do these stupid degree checks. this is why we're being checked over and over again.

She didn't tarnish the reputations of schools overseas. She tarnished herself, as well as other Korean professors.

The guy who is responsible for starting this whole fiasco is long gone. Here is a thread about it, from 3 years ago. OMG, I'm getting freakin' OLD!
