Do any of you guys have a nice resource to read on how to set-up a small office network, with a file server and stuff like that. (5 to 6 computers)
I would also like to connect a printer to the network. |

What operating system are you running?
How new are your computers?
Define file server; old PC that holds files or dedicated machine
specifically designed as a file server (Network Appliance).
Do they have wireless?
The basics, get a router - ethernet or wireless.
The router will have ports, usually in factor of 4 (4, 8, 16).
Use the basic network configuration wizard in windows.
It should detect the network and set up accordingly.
(I'm assuming Windows XP)
It's fun to play with these things, so try it and come back when you get stuck, and ask more questions. Reading will waste time, it's like hours of planning for a few minutes of work.
Good luck, I'm sure we'll hear back soon.
You will have fun as you go through the process. |

I am flexible on that point, but have no experience outside of "using" Linux.

It would be a mix of old and new, where the old would be the fileserver/firewall/ trafick regulation kind of thing

So windows can support these things, like plug and play?
