Hypothetical situation:
You have a friend who works for a Hagwon. She knows for a fact that one of the teachers at the school (an adult school) is doing drugs. She has heard him talking with friends about it, about other teachers he knows getting together for these types of parties, etc. She also knows that he dates some of the students sometimes, and she fears (no proof) that the students are being influenced.
Her biggest worries are about the reputation of the school, the students livelihood, and the legal ramifications.
She wants to do something, but isn't sure what. Should she tell the boss and risk him not believing it or doing nothing? Should she tell the Korean police?
She has ruled out talking to the guy, because she's scared of him and what he might do if he knew she was thinking of taking action.
What advice do you have for her? At this point, she doesn't consider "mind your own business" an option. |

Has the teacher physically harmed your friend or are the persons actions affecting anybody??
If yes, then i suppose she should dob him in. Remember though there is no 100% assurity that he will be deported, the director will probably tell her to be quiet and the guy would find out. Also, does she really want to put him in jail here, not a nice thing to do to a person
If no, then what is the problem??? he is only hurting himself so maybe she should get off her high-horse and just chill out. Not everyone shares the same morals. |

What kinds of drugs are we talking about here. Are we talking about "hardcore" or just a little mary jane? If ithey are "hardcore" drugs and students are being drawn into that kind of behaviour, it might be tempting to do something, as that could have serious ramifications for someone who doesn't know what they are getting into. If it's just a little dope, who cares! Would you like to land this guy in a Korean jail? Is it that big of a deal? |

She's talking about marijuana.
So that's not a big deal in Korea?
No police problems? No ramifications for the hagwon if word got out? It's not bad for the students?
Must be OK since it's not "hardcore" drugs? |

In terms of causing trouble for the school and anyone who gets caught- yeah, weed is bad news here. |

To be honest,
If it is mary jane then its a bit silly isn't it, we better dob her in for drinking then hey. Gee, i don't know any Koreans that drink????
However, it is illegal here yes, you are right Gollum and maybe it is a dumb thing to do in Korea.
If she goes to the police she won't be just taking down her friend but all his friends that smoke as well which could mean a lot of pissed off people. It is wrong yes but wrong enough for all this unneccesary bullcrap to go down?? |

Nobody loves a rat.
Theres 'no proof' he's influencing his students. If he were my acquaintance, scary or not, I'd speak with him & suggest more discretion. |

If you're going to attack me with a sock, at least read my post properly. Stop trying to read between the lines so much. Would you like to know my opinion on drugs, hardcore or otherwise? Why don't you just ask if you would like further clarification? |

You call smoking marijuana 'doing drugs'?! And you don't know foreigners caught doing that get imprisoned, fined, and deported in Korea? Are you for real?
Tell your friend to tell her colleague he's stupid for doing it but ratting him out is just a shitty thing to do. |

I would speak to him, but my version of "more discretion" would be "quit smoking weed in Korea, moron!!" The penalties here are pretty severe, and my understanding is that when the cops bust someone, they don't shake him down for his dealers's name, they shake him down for the name of everyone he's ever smoked it with. So, if he's your colleague at the school, there's a good chance that his bust could draw some negative attention to you as well, even if it's just an unfriendly chat with the police.
As for influencing students: well, being Korean, they should know the laws better than anyone else. If they choose to disobey them, that's not my concern. |

When I started smoking pot in Canada a bust for simple possession meant frontpage news & jail time. Discretion ruled then & I dont see what would be so different here. Running risks is a personal decision, just dont be foolish about it. Thats what I'd tell the guy. |
