For that quick tropical get-a-way in December.

PATTAYA

Pattaya is not all RLD. They have lousy beaches, but great wreck diving. There are tourist attractions and great restaurants. Also, really good shopping

More expensive than the Philippines. Better banking! Accept Traveler Cheques. ATM's everywhere

In my experience is that most in the tourist industry can speak reasonable English

5-6 hours and then another 2 hours to Pattaya from the Airport

CLARK FIELD

You can fly direct to Clark Field and be in Angeles City. AC is only an RLD (in the tourist area) but has some nice restuarants..you can take a few hour bus trip to Olangapo and be on the beach-nice laid back town. A bit longer and you can be in La Union. Lousy shopping in these places

Less expensive than Thailand.

Next to impossible to cash traveler cheques--fewer ATM's.

Is believed that everyone can speak great English?

About 4 hours away-tiny airport so you can be at your hotel about 1/2 hours after landing

I just got back from Angeles and Manila and had a great time. The food was good and the night life was great-not just the girly bars but also the discos. Had a ball at Heaven club in Manila. Can't speak highly enough of the Western and Fillipino food available all at reasonable prices.
One note though, the prices for the girls (as I enquired but did not use!) has gone up to 1300 pesos or 30 bucks. I hear it used to be $10 a pop!

Anyway I think my next trip to the Phils I will branch away to some more remote regions and hope to actually make it to the beach this time. I'm thinking about renting an apartment next time and using it as a base when I'm not staying near the beach.

I've only had 1 trip so can't really compare apples with oranges but even though Angeles has become a tourist town I enjoyed it and would go back there but I will suss out some other places in the Phils next time as well.

Patong beach in Phuket has the same nightlife as Pattaya but with a better beach.Patong beach is a little expensive but you can stay in nearby
Karon beach and still go to Patong beach every night.

Phuket is a stones throw away from other great beaches. Au Nang in Krabbi and Phi Phi island.

Angeles/patong = pataya? Good call, ceteris parabis they are the same.

I tip toward Angeles just slightly since you can step to Luzon quicker while Pataya is in the dull or slightly lesser part of Thailand.

Filipinas in my experience have been hotter and more friendly than Thai women.

From my understanding both locations are pretty useless. Unless you're looking for Illicit entertainment.

Pattaya beach- If you try to swim you have a good chance of being hit by some yahoo on a jet ski.

Angeles- No beach just Brothels
