OMG ... YAHOO is so sickenly bourgeois
$100 for ONE-night's accomodations in INDIA or Indonesia?
How about unique night-stays for $5 or $10? |

A straw hut is not particularly unique. |

I lived on $100 a week , in Java in the 90's. India was a little more expensive in 2002, but still only $30 a day in a mid range hotel guesthouse. This included busses & food as well. |

I heard someone put it well before, perhaps referring to parents. A lot of western and therefore relatively rich people really have no idea, and figure a hotel must cost like it does back home. Yet in these poorer countries, $25 USD or less can get you a perfectly good place to stay. I remember feeling like it was highway robbery paying around $15 in some places Vietnam, but it was a nice room. |

igotthisguitar posted this?? There's got to be some kind of conspiracy theory involved with the $100 price tag. |

They get the people of my parent's generation who
1. are too afraid to show up to a place without accomodation booked in advance.
2. don't know how to use the internet very well so can't look at places online to price compare
3. are intimidated by calling internationally
4. are intimidated by travelin internationally
So, they rely on places like AAA or some other travel agent to book it all for them. We help my parents-in-law book things all the time. They don't even have internet at their home! |
