This is a hail Mary, but I'd be overjoyed if someone could help. I'm trying to wire money from an American bank to my account in Korea at Daegu Bank. My bank refuses to complete the transfer without:
-the name of the New York bank the money goes through before getting to Daegu Bank;
-the New York bank's ABA routing/transit number.
I've already tried speaking to every teller and manager in my local branch of DB, and they had no idea what I was talking about. I need to use this money (about $6700 USD) for key and car money, and the people I've arranged to buy from are getting irritated and antsy.
I have no idea who to ask about this information, and at this point, I'm looking at other ways of getting money to Korea, fast. I don't care about paying fees; I just need my money, and I have the feeling if I wait for a wire transfer to happen, I'll be penniless for a long time. |

Expensive but quick and efficient = western union.
They have a desk in the KB* banks. Money within hours. |

For the huge amount of money you'd be shelling out for WU, I'd go down the street to KB or KEB and take the 10 minutes to open up an acct with them. You'll have a lot less problems when dealing with a national bank vs a provincial one. Plus the local clerk will often defer to a Korean in Seoul HQ who speaks English and can facilitate. |

Your bank is working under the assumption that Daegu Bank uses an intermediary bank, probably because they can't find the routing number in their database and they are too lazy to bother calling their hq to find it for you.
Did you get Daegu Bank's routing number and give it to them? Then that's all you owe them. If there's an intermediary bank, tell them to go find it for you and earn their $10 fee. That's their job. |
