2.3 Million + Apartment for 29 hours a week (19 teaching hours)
3.0 Million + Apartment for 43 hours a week (29 teaching hours)
I've been looking around at various deals. I don't mind the long hours as long as the pay for them is reasonable.
I'm sure you guys have plenty of opinions, so let's hear them. |

You will be teahing more than 29 hours per week at 3,000,000 per month. If I were in your shoes, I would chop it down to 40 hours per week. Your employer will have to pay you additional remuneration for hours in excess of an 8 hour day and 40 hour work week. But I don't see that happening here. The 43 hour workweek will eventually conflict with labor laws.
Did they forward you a sample contract? |

Article 49 (Working Hours)
(1) Working hours per week shall not exceed forty-four hours excluding recess hours.
(1) Working hours per week shall not exceed forty hours excluding recess hours. <Amended by Act No. 6974, Sep. 15, 2003>
(2) Working hours per day shall not exceed eight hours excluding recess hours.
OTOH, working hours can be extended as stipulated in Articles 50 and 51 of the Korean Labor Standards Act. If the employer does extend the employees working hours, then the employer has to pay additional remuneration of more than fifty percentage points of normal remuneration for extended works. |

On the surface both look like good deals, especially for someone with no prior experience. However, so much depends on so many other factors. |

Actually, I have a bit of experience. 6 months in Seoul a few years ago, plus 4 years of teaching in the U.S. Do you think I should hold out for something better, or is my experience not enough to matter? Also, these are positions working with nearly fluent kids. I have no desire to work with high school and/or college level students.
As for the contract itself, I'm familiar enough with contracts to know that this one is clear, detailed, and fair. |

It looks like you have the experience, contract knowledge so why ask us what to do? That doesn't make any sense to me. |

I'm asking for opinions on the salary. I haven't been in Seoul since 2002, so I'm not sure what a reasonable salary is now. |

If it's a job you're confident that you'll like, I'd say go for it as the salary is fairly good, but only if the apartment's decent, too. If you take the second job don't expect to have much time and expect to be pretty tired by Friday evening, however. |

I'd go for the 3.0 one.
It's not super amazing, but it's not so shabby. Also, the earnings are legal. Otherwise you'd have to work illegal privates to make over 3.0 |

You can make more than 3 mil legal. You just need to be lucky or know where to look. |
