1. What is the annual household income of foreigners in Korea?
2. What is the annual household income of Americans in Korea?
3. What is the annual household income of Canadians in Korea?
4. What is the annual household income of immigrants to Korea from the United States or Canada?

Do any of the groups above come close to 62,000,000 won in annual household income?

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security estimates the number of illegal Korean residents in the U.S. is around 250,000, the Korean Embassy in the U.S. said Tuesday. The embassy said in an audit for the National Assembly that Korea ranks seventh on the list of illegal residents in the U.S., which includes Mexico, Honduras and the Philippines at the top.

According to the embassy, the annual household income for Korean-Americans is US$62,000 on average, with 50 percent of them college graduates....

That article is a little misleading. How many of those households are two income verse single income? When I was married, our house hold income was close to that figure, but now that I am single again, my income is no way near that much. BTW- I am in the American in Korea group.

Another question I have is, if the government can figure out how many Koreans are living illigally in America, why can't they find them and deport their as8sses?

Is this question just bait for a flame war, or have you really not read about the US immigration problem and what would happen if the US deported all illegals?

I don't know many Americans or Canadians who have been in Korea for more than 5 years who DON'T make more than USD 62,000 per year. I know several making double that.

If you are talking averages, then it gets muddied. Then you have to lump in all the newbies making 25K/year. As the expat population here is overwhelmingly transitory, it would be tough to draw overall comparisons to the Korean poplulation in the U.S.

Assuming I use the $62,000 number in the article instead of W62,000,000 in the OP (hey, that exchange rate can take $5K or so off the salary), my household is within a few hundred dollars of the average.

Well for a couple of two to make that much money you'd need to be making 2,363,053 won/month each. If you include in housing, a couple of even the greenest newbies could make that with ease.

Actually, it's not all that impossible. 62,000 US is around 65m KRW, which means you have to earn at least 5m a month. An AMERICAN friend of mine who has been teaching at his university since 1975 is earning MORE than 5m a month (close to 7).

Actually, I was talking to an older fellow out at a bar not long ago, who is teaching at a univ, doing some work for the embassy, and giving private lessons. He boasted to me that he made more money than "most CEOs in Korea", and said later he made 10 million per month (of course, I did not ask about any of this).

I didn't want to be rude so I didn't tell him that was well shy of what most CEO's make (and most attorneys as well), but nonetheless that is an impressive sum for teaching ESL and not working a high number of hours per week. He seemed pretty pleased with his lot in life.

He has 4 kids, or so I've heard. I bet his wife has every penny budgeted.

Anyone know what the average income is in Korea? I see a lot of ppl pushing designer baby strollers, and I really wonder how ppl can spend over $400 on a stroller. My friend thinks it's disposable income, but damn, $400+ on a dang stroller? Rolling Eyes
