|
|
I've recently gotten two offers from Yahoo email accounts to teach what I am told are nationals from other countries working for companies in Nigeria.
They are so dubious that I dont doubt its some kind of scam but I've never come across any one else who has received them. Just curious to see if any one else has received this and what the scam is. I mean it sounds way to insanely good to be true, but I cant exactly figure out what the scam would be otther than, sell whities organs on the black market or something.

It's a variant of the classic Nigerian 419 scam (though this one seems to have an English teaching angle. It's very strange, since English IS the official language of Nigeria and it is widely spoken. Don't trust anything from Nigeria that offers money. |

If this is a scam (and it sounds like one), what are they after? Will someone arrive only to get kidnapped and held ransom? Or will they simply ask for money down the line with some b.s. story to back it up? |

Yes - I got that EXACT SAME email about 6 months ago sent to me...
As a reply (thinking it would be so dangerous to live there) - and quite rude of them to ask me to go live in Nigeria when I have so much going on here at the moment...
I told him to send his kid over here to me - that i would teach the kid both English and Korean - and then they would put the money into my bank account each month...
I never heard from them again..... |

It was...but within the year i think. Even if fabricated, the thread was hilarious as the OP posted his/her conversation (maybe 4~5 emails back and forth) with the 'recruiter' and we all had a go.
Good fun on a Tuesday evening!

haha, I've gotten three variations of those, all slightly different offers but in the same format(poor English and short sentences). I figured it would be a scam. Am wondering if I should respond now and see how far we get. |

Nigerians are known as thieves throughout Africa.
Do they deserve that rep? Probably.
Be careful with the Nigeys, that is all. |

The message board program really cut the title off at an unfortunate point. |

I've never known a Nigerian personally, but all of my Kenyan co-workers say, "Nigerians are the most corrupt people in the world." |
