I'm bringing my laptop from the UK (and an external drive) both of which are designed for use in the UK. What equipment do I need to buy to use these? I'd like to get them before leaving if possible Cool

It is most likely that they just need a simple plug adapter.

Check the brick on the power supply cord. There should be a lable that says something to the effect - input = 110-250VAC 50/60 Hz.

The same should be true for your external drive as well.

The power here is 240VAC 60Hz.

If the big black brick can handle the current change you can buy a new plug in Korea at any tech store.

They are 110-250VAC 50/60 Hz. Looking to get a plug before going to Korea so if anyone can recommend any online stores, that'd be great.

UK plugs are like this

A little pricy - I get them (not the exact same model but UK - Korean) here (nanjin arcade at yongsan plaza) for about 1000-1500 won.

You can also change the plug ends (cut the old one off and put a new one on) for about 500 won each and then put new ones on when you get back home for about the same price (25p each).

Sounds good. But don't forget the cost of travelling to Yongsan in the first place Laughing

You could go to Yong-san or any other place that sells electronics stuff...they're all over the place here, even in the smallest towns.

Anyway, not sure if what you posted is the same as this, but you want this...

I just bought one of those adaptors today in Youngsan Electronics Mart for 3,000 won. It worked fine on the older laptop (haven't tried it on my new one yet).

Before I had this kind of an adaptor, which I which I was going to buy another one of, but was told it was illegal to buy or sell them (I used it with a large convertor).
