Hi all,

I am flying into Seoul next week without a job lined up. I then plan to go to Gwangju (southwest) and/or Busan to look for a job.

What is the best way to find jobs once in the country?

Sorry if this question has been asked a million times, its just that my internet connection keeps cutting out so i cant look through posts.

Cheers

Send me a PM and I'll hook you up with our group in Gimhae, near Busan. We have about 40 teachers in our public school program, and as this city has very high political connections there is a lot of money flowing here and the English program is expanding fast. We have pretty sweet contracts.

Man, you know a country is hard up for teachers if they'll make an offer sight-unseen to a poster on an internet cafe...with no experience...with no overseas exprience...and maybe even without a degree!

Seoul is a better place to be IMHO, but if this poster is offering you a decent job right off the bat, why not?

Good luck.

Go to EPIK in Seoul, & bring:

Original Degree
Police Check
Medical Certificate (TB, Aids, Hepatitis, normal blood pressure)
Transcripts
Sealed copies of transcripts
2 original signed references
a covering letter to your resume

Or go through a recruiter. EPIK have a website.

Remember, if you get a job while you are here, then you will not get your flight over reimbursed.

Why not? Everything is negotiable. Have them reimburse you for the flight since they don't have to pay a recruiting fee (provided you don't go to a public school, otherwise you won't get the flight paid for).

Chris, how does one "find" EPIK? Do they have a headquarters or something in Seoul?

They are in the second phase of their hiring program and they need 20 more students right now.
We just re-negotiated our contracts so we get more vacation (all summer and winter vacation minus camps = 2-3 months), an extra bonus, and best of all, we don't have to stay at school until 4:40 anymore like most public schools.
Our city will will be moving into the third phase in 2009 and they will be hiring even more teachers for their high schools.
I am torn between elementary school and a middle school or high school, but for now I am sticking with the great elementary school I have because it is treating me well and I don't have to do any prep. (:
