Hi,
A few questions for all the experts here.
I'm due to graduate my university with a Bachelor's of Visual Arts. I majored in Photography (Creative Advertising) and Visual Culture. The degree lasts three years. I'm originally from California, did my degree in Australia. Going back to California before the new year. Will this be enough to land a teaching job? I'm planning to get some kind of teaching certification (TESOL or something) when I get back to the States, but I keep seeing "4 year BA or BS degree popping up...no mention of BVA.
Also, I'm a bit picky regarding my working conditions. I highly prefer to work in Seoul (I already have a few GREAT friends there with whom I plan to reunite) and to work with 18-30 year olds. I just don't have the patience for children. Am I in any position to be this picky? Or am I just supposed to take what I can get? I've heard all kinds of mentions of "poor working conditions" in Korean English schools but I'm not actually clear on specifics (the manager yells at you or what?).
Last question: If I am in any position to choose my location and student demographic, is there a certain time of year that's better to start applying? As I said, I'll be back in the USA from Jan 2008. I'd like to leave California as soon as I finish obtaining certification and training (perhaps in April/May?).
Hope someone can shed light on this. Apologies if these are common questions that people are tired of answering. |

Do you mean your degree will expire in three years? I've never heard of such a thing.
Or do you mean it took you three years to get the degree? |

I would guess, and this is just a guess, that your Korean consulate
will know that it is equivalent to a BS or BA. Get some certified
copies from the Korean consulate and I think there is a good chance
that immigration will accept them. This might be a case where
certified copies are better than an original because they have
stamps. |

| I'm wondering if you will have to get your certified copies from Australia. |

No, I studied photography with an emphasis on creative advertising. it's actually a double major, where the other part of the degree is visual culture, which includes film, painting, design, photography, etc. |

If it's a bachelor's you're qualified.
And yes, you want the same job that everyone else wants. Best of luck. |
