Wondering if other people either now or previously felt like giving up their job and leaving around the 6 month mark...
What kept you or is keeping you here?....
What still motivates you?....
And does it get easier from here in?...as in is the Winter holiday time pretty cruisy or what can I expect?...
Those who stayed on for 12 months or more did you regret it or feel satisfied at the end of it all?
Cheers

That's the 6 month slump. Mine came at 4 months and lasted a month. Then it was fine. I looked forward to the vacation in the middle of the contract. Then I looked forward to the end of the year and that vacation. I stayed in Korea and found happiness traveling and doing things like sports and my girlfriend.
If I didn't stay, I would've looked forward to the pension and free ticket home. And the going away parties. |

I handed in my resignation letter at exactly the six month mark - within on day of six months. It was the best thing I ever did in Korea.
Six months into my current job I could hardly wait to get back to teaching after a nice, long winter break. |

It really is normal to feel like leaving around the 4/6 month mark. It totally passes as long as you remain socially active. |

are you depressed? are your coworkers evil?
what's making you want to leave?
if it's just that "things are different", well, what you do is remind yourself of that when you feel yourself getting upset at something.
just say "different culture, different way of doing things". and take a deep breath.
do something too.
buy some books on learning korean, and start working on korean. |

You are at the point where you are just now realizing it suks here but you lose alot of equity if you leave so I suggest you just stay another 6 months and stick it out. Its only 6 months! Not gonna break you! |

Yeah. What's he hiding? And what's the big deal about these long vacations? Obviously people aren't going to be spending all of it out of the country. Oh boy! Weeks of free time in Korea! Hours of free time sitting at work!
Wonder what it's like to work somewhere where you can't control your boss and the kids. Or be incapable of doing so.
Guess it takes a brain. |

Sometimes at the 6 month mark people can experience major culture shock. That is normal. Try to hang in there another month or so. You never know, things may improve.
Another thing to consider is where are you from? Some people begin suffering from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) this time of year. With the days getting shorter, more overcast and less sunlight, it can be discouraging.
Take some time and reflect on your situation: How is your job? Are you content with your situation? Where is the stress coming from? Homesickness? Loneliness, etc. What's it about? I hope that you can get to the bottom of it.
All the best! |

At 6 months you've made it over the hill!! It's all downhill from there. Just suck it up and stay with it. The days get shorter and soon enough you'll be home. |

I have almost 3 months this winter. I can assure you, I'll be spending all of it (get back a week early) out of the country doing SFA. |

It's too bad that you've failed to resolve the fact that you suck. |
