There are lots of threads here discussing how to get pension before you leave the country, but not after. I'm currently in the United States trying to get a disbursement of my Korean pension. I'm not finished with the process; here's what I've learned so far:

U.S. citizens apparently must fill out this form and send it to someone (not exactly sure yet). The form is [U.S]Application for Korean Benefits under the Korea-U.S. Social Security Agreement.doc.

I called the U.S. Social Security Administration. They told me they are not involved with the process.

Next I called the Korean Embassy in Washington, and they told me they are not involved. However, this Korean government publication states that the above-referenced form must be "notarized from a notary agency of the country in which you reside and attested to by the Korean Consulate or Embassy." At this point I'm guessing that the form must be sent directly to the pension office in Korea (regional office or Seoul?). I'll try to find out more info on that later.

The form must accompany several copies of documents such as passport, alien card, etc. The form states these copies must be "certified true copies". If that means the copies have to be certified, how do you go about getting the copies certified?

If anyone has accurate information regarding this process, I would appreciate you making a post in this thread. I will try to call the pension office on Monday to find out more info myself. When I am finished with this process I will make another post to let everyone know my results.

How much money are you owed? If it's a large amount, it may be worth it to take a flight to Korea to file the paperwork and then fly back. I'd do that ONLY if there's a profit in it (Pension minus cost of trip > 0).
