Question for Middle School veterans: When do MS students reach the point where, seeing that they are only weeks away from completing Middle School, cease taking their studies seriously and stop putting in effort? The last week or two have been almost painful here and I am at a loss to understand what's going on. The number of kids bounced from class for goofing off has been growing at an alarming rate. Confused

Mine are like that throughout the year....

Though some of my grade 2'ers have started acting 'too cool for school' are laying out their Ipods and phones ont heir desks as well as the new trend for guys dressing up like the 'Taliban' in the classroom in their school clothes.

It's actually kind of funny.

It's around early November for grade 3s and early December for grade 1s and 2s. They shouldn't be *that* bad by October yet.

Since I can't wait out puberty, I'll (grimly) keep my head up for what's around the corner in November.

That "too cool for school" attitude really sends me around the bend; makes teaching (and learning) next to impossible.

Having thought about it a little more, I guess it could be the school festival that's got them wound a little tighter. There's alot of excitement around here about it; bands, singing, dancing, acting, samulnori; a big hall has been rented, full days activities etc. The school is a nuthouse (in a good way) during the lunch hour. Unfortunately, my room over the last couple weeks has become a nuthouse (in a bad way) during class.
