As the title suggests, Im looking for information/details from people who have successfully brought their pet/s with them. In particular, I would love to hear from anyone who has done so when taking up a position with EPIK.

Im aware that bringing in pets is, in general, a fairly simple process. What I cant work out is just how the hell this works with public school positions. If I were to take a job through EPIK, and arrive in Seoul for Orientation with my pet, how would I be accommodated? Obviously, hotels are going to be a problem. There just doesn't seem to be any useful information on what, exactly, happens at Orientation.

Unless I can sort out a solution to the above, I may be forced to start at a hagwon. If youve found a solution, let me know!

make sure you make it very clear to EPIK and your school that you have a dog.

try looking for a dog sitter on these forums.

there's always vets who can board your pet.

and check out lonelylifetime.com for animal lovers.

I teach public school, and have two dogs with me. My advice would be search for a public position independant from that program - watch the boards closely and apply directly to a school that is recruiting, or to a recruiter that is recruiting for the school. This way you can tell the school you are dealing with about your pets and have it written into the contract. For my orientation they offered me to stay at a hotel with the other teachers but I told them that because of my responsibilities I would have to go home at the end of the core session each day, at approximately 5pm, and return the next morning. That was no problem. If you want the name of a good public school recruiter you can pm me. This job board, and englishspectrum.com both were helpful.

Cat, actually. The logistics of the move are a real pain in the arse.

That being said, I'm prepping the app now, through a recruiter. He's been great, so I might just raise it with him and let him work his magic. It IS, however, a general EPIK app, and not for a specific school.

Failing any pre-arranged solution, we'll have to seek assistance! I'd rather mitigate the trauma, if at all possible. The flight will be bad enough. If he's stuck with a vet for a week after that... Shocked

Thanks for the link!

I like the hagwon idea. Be your own boss. Hire and fire at your own will.
