I stopped making too many excuses after I finished my school, which means I used to be a full-of-excuses student, I admit it was one of the most chanllenging jobs I had ever took.

I remember when I was in graduated school oneday I made an appointment with a friend to have dinner, I forgot I had language class that night, my class consisted of only 4 students and my teacher Mrs.Kim came to teach us every Tuesday from the other side of the city.
I totally forgot I had class until I ran into my teacher at the gateway, it was about time for class, she then asked where I was going, I was shocked but I am pretty sure my facial expression wasnt changed, I told her right away that I was running to a hospital emergency room to visit my friend who was hit by a car.Mrs.Kim was very understanding and let me go in the end.

I know making excuse is sinful, no matter what is the motivation behind. But recalling how stringent my family and school education were, I would see how hard a kid survive them without any excuse-making self-training program.

Cool

English is a second language for Panda or else is on drugs.

I taught my students to say "My dog ate my homework" when they forget their workbook at home. Laughing

My dog actually DID eat my final term paper for my senior year philosophy seminar. The prof was highly amused and let it slide.

My cat decided to take a crap on mine once. I told the teacher and she didn't believe me. She called my parents who asked me about it. I took the HW out of the trash and showed them the crap stain. They didn't call the teacher back they waited till the next day and showed her. I wasn't in trouble but I think kitty spent a week outside.

Absolutely the BEST excuse I ever heard:

A student (uni) came to my class about 20 minutes late the first day. At the end of class, I took him aside and asked why he was late. He said (in perfect English) "I found my girlfriend in bed with another guy." !!!!

What could I say???

ajumma.... give that student bonus points

no matter how angry I might feel at a student being late or not having done their homework, the little buggers figure out quickly how easily I'm disarmed by English eloquence.

Me: "THAT'S THE THIRD TIME THIS WEEK YOU FORGOT YOUR BOOK!" Mad
Kid: "But it's in my father's car so I can't bring it."
Me: (noticing he used the possessive and connective properly) "All right. Sit down." Smile

Mad big Mac, my point is to find a proper way solving the economy crisis we are facing now, which partly related to our shrunk consumer confidence ..................Seriously, its about a psychological issue for educators and students.

I indeed regretted I lied a lot when I was younger, it usually takes long time before people reach my level...I made up excuses without any big effort, my brain ran very fast when I needed to convince others and people did think I was a honets girl. It became part of my life and I didnt feel it wrong...

I remember watching an interview of Jacky Chen years ago, claiming he hated lying because he found it hard to cover lies up, I nodded and nodded and thought he was a great man, just several months later Jackey Chen cheating on his wife and making another woman pregnant were brought into daylight.

I believe liars would never feel guilty lying or making excuses, which to them is only a piece of cake. On the other hand, since I made too many excuses, I know well when people are lying, I am sick people making all kinds of excuses when they cancel appointments, meetings or plans, I am now working with some woman who lies a lot and doesnt know I know her lying---- that is the major reason I made less and less excuses, I know there are always smarter people who can see through things.

Also after I finished my school, more independent life makes me feel less stressed by acting like a perfect doll to please my parents or my teachers, I still have a boss now, but he is the coolest guy I know in the world and would never scold me even I did things unusual, he cares only my final results, which I dont think I can cheat in anyway.

The students don't need to make excuses as their teachers will make a million excuses for them.

They have little chance to practice englishee.
Our sentences have different order.
They can't undersatnd English so I must translate everything you say......

If I'm drunk on soju and makkoli, I sometimes see people beside me when there aren't. Maybe due to reflections off of glass desk coverings, etc.

Maybe it's a spiritual awakening or a neurological malfunctioning and you are starting to tap into other dimensions.

I usually don't even care if they do their homework or not. It helps to remind them that I get paid whether they want to learn the language or not. That actually works to get them to do it.

Occasionally, my students skip my extra class. Not often though. The best excuse I got for that was from a girl who, "had to take a big shit." She gets in A+ in my books. Best excuse ever. I'd never want to get in between someone and a good dump.

I also got the excuse that 5:30-6:30 is the only time one student can watch porn and not get caught. Once again, I remember being 17 and I can hardly get in the way of that! Very Happy

Actually, my kids are pretty good and usually stay pretty self motivated... unless they need to use the bathroom.
