How would you rate their sound-stopping ability?

I own a 30,000 won pair of Sony in-ear headphones like this, and they aren't too spectacular, but they do "boost" volume and cut out sound enough to notice a difference on a plane.

Oh, I tried those out once. They were really good. Too expensive for me, though. Sad

They're amazing.

I sat next to the wing on my flight over here and didn't hear the engines at all. There are a lot of reviews of them all over the internet, check them out. I actually find it a lil unnerving to walk from home to the office and not hear anything but the music.

Interestingly, Bose changed their US (at my bros, in Washington) commercials from saying "Noise Canceling" to "Noise Reduction". Since it turns out that they are pretty poor in reducing noise WITHOUT audio being pumped into them (even though they are advertised as not needing the audio).

My Mother had a pair of these, they were some of the best headphones i had ever worn... with audio playing in them. ^^

if you're really looking for sound isolation, i suggest getting IEM (in ear monitoring) phones. get a decent pair and you should be able to get a good seal, so noise can't/won't bother you. however, they are pretty dangerous for wearing out on the streets since you won't be able to hear the people around you either. but on a plane, a train or a bus, you're golden.

the cheap (relatively) and decent ones cost under 100,000 won, like Etymotic ER6 or Shure e2cs

yeah but you can only wear in-ear phones for like an hour before they get all sweaty

erm.. i think that depends on the person and his/her ears. i've worn mine for much longer than that (e3cs) and had not problems. then again, i'm very much a headphones person.

Shetan, those are this pair:

Nice sound but no noise-cancelling. You get what you pay for with Bose.

Usually Bose is overpriced mediocre stuff (no highs, no lows... must be bose!)

But for some reason, these headphones are the exception. They're pretty much the best noise-cancelling phones you can get. they sound great and work as advertised.

good luck with the sale

This Bose kit is excellent - as is all Bose stuff in fact.

I have a pair and use 'em on the subway and the many flights I take.

Brilliant.

A steal at the price.
