I posted this a few weeks ago. Pulling out of Iraq? My ***. They're there for the long haul. How many corporations are going to be sponsoring this one? Isn't it meant to be their biggest embassy now? Super Embassy if you will. |

I suppose it would be better is they used some crapola area where people could easily fire rockets at it for the next 20 years.....that would have been a good idea |

9-11 cost the US up to a trillion dollars . If the mideast isn't dealt with then the US can expect 9-11 type events every so often.
However the US ought to have a policy of supporting Iraq becoming three entities so perhaps the US is putting too much emphasis on Baghdad's embassy.

I'm an American. 600 mil for an embassy. Big deal. The federal government deals in trillions of dollars. 600 million is akin to leaving excess pennies in the "leave a penny take a penny" dish by cash registers.
#1. You gotta pay people a LOT of money to risk their lives building an embassy in Baghdad. Any person working on the building is a giant target saying "Please bomb, kidnap, kill me."
#2. Iraq doesn't have home depots left and right. Getting material there to build it is going to be expensive.
#3. Its gotta be a fortress. The last thing that should happen is a shoddy Embassy being toppled by a suicide car bomb.
#4. Once again, its only 600 million dollars. While that is a crapton of money to us average joe's, its pocket change to the Federal Government.
You want to complain about stuff being expensive, why not start with how much plumbers charge for in home service. |

WASHINGTON The latest problem with the trouble-plagued new U.S. embassy complex in Iraq is that the sprinkler systems meant to contain a fire do not work, according to officials in Congress and the State Department .
The previously undisclosed problem in the $592 million project was discovered several weeks ago when the fire-safety systems were tested and pipe joints burst, State Department representatives recently informed Congress .

what's this? a project in iraq with shoddy construction and planning? say it isn't so!
What's sad is this is one of the smaller mistakes we've had over there. |

You can imagine that in the eyes of the Insurgency and every anti-Western jihadist that this mega-building is basically going to be their symbolic equivalent to what the Death Star was to Luke Skywalker and the Rebel
Alliance.
I personally would not want to work in that building. I can see people taking pot shots at it all day long. |
