Hi. My name is , and I'm the national editor of the JoongAng Daily English language newspaper in Seoul.
We are working on a story about Christopher Neil, and would like to speak to anyone who knows him personally -- just to find out more about him.
If you would be willing to be interviewed in the newspaper, please e-mail me at . We will then give you a call. The interview wouldn't take long, but we are on a tight deadline.
You don't have to use your name, but we'd prefer it if you would. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the note, Kermo. We're having some kind of technical difficulty with our server, I guess, but please feel free to PM me on my private account. Thanks again. |

The reporter working on the story is willing to give his cell phone number out. His name is Hwang Young-jin, and the phone number is **deleted, by edit**.
He is on deadline now, so the sooner the better. Thanks again.

Well, it's news. Hard for them to ignore. It makes us all look bad, unfortunately.
I am curious to know if he was here on a legal visa, or the 6-month Canadian Tourist Visa that's so easy to teach illegally on.
I have a feeling, however, that if he was working for an international school, he might have been more thoroughly checked-out.
Was he on an E-2 visa? The reporter should look into this. |

I do hope that the article won't make all the honest hard working teachers look bad tho.
I also hope that the article will talk about how the expat community has been working to nail this guy. There are "wanted" pictures on literally every expat board in Korea. |

1 bad apple out of 25,000 and the Korean news reporter / reports will make us all out to be pedophiles. I am willing to offer odds of 100 to 1 that is will be just another example of their sensationalistic foreigner bashing.
Korean journalists are not known for honesty or objectivity in reporting, especially in Korean papers. Call the reporter at your own risk.
It is often toned down in the English versions so the outside world won't see how bad or one sided the reporting is.
Give it a month, or perhaps even less since this is an election year, and we will all have to jump through extra hoops because of this ass and the Korean reporters here who are picking up on it.

FYI, this newspaper is edited by foreigners -- non Koreans who speak English. We are affiliated with the JoongAng Ilbo, but we mostly do our own reporting, as is the case with this story.
We are distributed with the International Herald Tribune.
Our editors have many, many decades of combined experience in U.S. and other foreign newspapers. Our only goal is to be fair and accurate.
Thanks for your responses to this. The more information we have, the more accurate we can be. |

My Korean gf works for one of the big network news stations here. Ironically, she works in the international news department. She did tell me earlier that she just received some "new" news that she had to report on. I am guessing that this is it. I'll find out more later tonight I hope. |

If it was the KH/KT, I'd say DON'T DO IT KERMO. But the IHT Korean insert is pretty decent. The woman who does the TV column pokes constant evil fun at Korean dramas. They're not a house organ, or at least the least house organ-y, of Fortress Korea. |

I was contacted by a woman from AP, but I told her I'm not directly connected with it. |

Bizarre "special focus" article on MBC.They had 2 western actors in a mock-up police station on.Gimps.
First guy saying "It's OK in Hoju to touch like that"
Second guy saying "There's lot of people involved in drugs",accompanied by lots of bags of what looked like black tea Missus said it was meant to be pillipon.
The scaremongering/reactionism has started..... |
