I've been offered a position with the Gangwondo public schoolboard, but I have no idea where it is in Korea. I told the recruiter I'm looking for something in, and around Busan, but they seem to overlook that detail and keep offering me places near Seoul.
Anyone able to fill me in as to where, geographically Gangwondo is? |

Thanks. Did anyone else have this problem? No matter how many times I tell recruiters I want Busan, or Ulsan, or something close to there, they offer me places several hundred kilometres north of there. Are they even reading my letters? |

At least they're giving you the switch, without the bait. Recruiters offer you the positions they have to fill, any position anywhere. |

Gangwondo is great for people who love country, rural areas, natural environment, trout fishing, and solitude, but necessary services like banking, shopping, and transportation may lack a bit too much to meet your basic needs with the time constraints a full time 9 to 5 job puts on you.
If taking the job, you do want to express concern about practicalities like local public transportation, health care, food shopping, and banking options being within your limits locally without needing a motorcycle or car. Will you have transportation to the several schools you will be teaching at? I understand it is nice and very beneficial to have a motorcycle while living in the rural country, but it would take time to get oriented and find one to buy, not to mention, you need a license.
If you are set on Busan and the surrounding area on the southern coast, I would suggest applying with www.kimnjoe.com recruiter. |

Yeah, Gangwondo is not Busan. If you want to live in or near a major city, dont come here... The biggest areas (3 of them) might seem like large town by western standards. Most of those particular jobs, however, are going to be in places that are the exact opposite of a city. |

In my eyes Gangwon-Do is the nicest area in Korea, especially in summer. I prefer to live here and commute to Seoul and Busan at the weekends. I couldn't live in Seoul or Busan full time, it would drive me crackers.
I know people who have taken jobs in the PS system here and they have a great deal with vacations and pay. Well, far better than my school anyway. |
