I have been working at a public elementary school in Gyeonggi-do for over a year and now GEPIK have requested further proof that I graduated from my university. I provided them with my degree certificate and official transcripts before I started the job but now they also want me to provide them with a link that will take them to a database in my university's website which contains a list of all graduates. The problem is my university's website dosen't contain such a database. Has anyone else faced the same problem and if so what did you give GEPIK as further proof?

Step 1. Bend over touch your toes.
Step 2. Wiggle buttocks side to side.
Step 3. Repeat "Kiss it, kiss it,kiss it"

or

Tell them that you are not Korean and do not feel the need to cheat on your qualifications.

For the past year just about every month the head of English at my school has had to ask me for some more information - what unis I graduated from, when, in what disciplines, etc., etc. I don't really care, myself.

Ditto my university. I jsut went into my email, printed off an alum letter. I said, "You can call them and verify it yourself if you need to."

Happened to me last week after handing over ANOTHER sealed transcript 2 weeks prior. I just told my co-teacher that my college is small and doesn't do all that crap. That seemed to be the end of that.

Korean agencies don't seem to understand the concept of personal privacy, from education to medical records. My university required students to fill out privacy release forms. If you didn't tell the uni it was ok to release information, they won't release it.

You'd think that would be the obvious solution. But....

The thing is, she had that address for the uni clearinghouse, it was on the official memo, but for whatever reason, they don't want to do it.

I've lately read many stories like yours. Could it be that Korean employers don't trust their own immigration officials to do their jobs? Furthermore, maybe they're afraid of repercussions from the authorities if something is wrong with the degree? Anyway, I've difficulties to believe that this is the case.

It should be enough for you to remind your boss, that at the time you applied for your visa, the Korean immigration checked everything. What further proof does he need? Obviously everything is in order, because otherwise you wouldn't be working in Korea, now would you?

I fail to see the logic behind submitting official seal and stamped transcripts for every job, one would think after immigration has verified that one graduated university...there would be no need to give additional details every week

My school has just got the memo from GEPIK requesting verification of my university certificate.

My university doesn't give private info out due to the Data Protection Act in the UK. I could get them to send a confirmation fax I suppose but it could take some time. School wants it done by the 9th.

So they said I had to get a printout of the names of the graduates of my class from www.studentclearinghouse.org I told them that only some American universites are available there. Then my co-teacher's head exploded.

Because their supervisor says jump this high, they do it. Since as a foreigner you're lower on the Confucius hierarchy you're supposed to jump higher and faster. Who cares if the requests are not realistic - no one is supposed to point that out.
