I have, but not for a long while. The time I did it I was stuck across town late at night with no money and the Korean banks had all closed their ATM's. I went in to a 7-11 and used my US debit card to withdraw $20.
Usually there is a fee invovled, but luckly I didn't get one that time.
I've also used my US debit card for purchases over here when I was in a pinch. The last time I did that it took 2 weeks for the debit to clear, in most other cases it cleared in a few days. |

As far as I know, it's a mixed bag. International banks (real ones) like Citibank, HSBC, and Standard Chartered are more likely to have ATMs that will give you access to your home account. KEB often has at least one authentic international ATM. KB too. I seem to remember Woori working. Shinhan, not so much. Despite all the stickers, look for an INTERNATIONAL ATM logo over one of the machines and try it... but keep your expectations low, and keep trying. |
